FROM THE RECTOR
Dear People of Saint Paul's,

The fifty days of Easter are over, and I know many of you are hoping for some very church nerdy conversation about the Church's calendar. This Sunday we'll celebrate Trinity Sunday (it is traditional to track the sermon on this day for heresies, preferably with a scorecard), and then we'll enter the long green season of ordinary time. Some people describe ordinary time as the time of the Church: we have waited, celebrated, repented, walked through Holy Week, and celebrated again through the special seasons of the Church's year. Now it is time to get down to work, to follow the Spirit out into the world and meet our neighbors in their need and ours, with the good news on our lips and in our hands.

Part of how we're doing that this year is a special summer series at adult formation on Sundays called "Know Your Neighbor." Throughout the summer, we're inviting some of the best organizations at work in our neighborhood to join us in conversation about their work, the needs and resources they see, and how we might deepen our relationship with them. We will learn more about some of the great work already surrounding us, and more about the needs surrounding us, too. My modest hope is that this series will better equip us to proclaim the hope of God's love to our neighbors.

We'll begin this Sunday by hosting Dr. Jackson Drumgoole of Drumgoole Family Initiatives. Drumgoole Family Initiatives works especially with young people aging out of the foster care system. Somewhere between 31 and 46 percent of former foster children experience homelessness by the age of 26. Up to 80 percent of foster children will experience some form of mental illness as they mature. Drumgoole Family Initiatives is working to provide resources and mentoring to help the most at-risk young people in our community transition into adulthood safely and successfully.

Some of the future sessions in this series are still being arranged, but we have already scheduled the Community Foundation of the CSRA, Child Enrichment, and Compass for Hope for sessions later this summer. I hope you'll join us Sunday and all summer long as we get to know some of our neighbors better, to learn better how to proclaim the gospel where we are.

We'll also be taking playing cards, card games, and water balloons to be used in our time there.
