Vintage Baseball is back at Elmhurst University on June 4

The Elmhurst Heritage Foundation is proud to present the annual Vintage Baseball Game on Sunday, June 4th starting at 2:00 p.m. on the Elmhurst University Mall (in front of Hammerschmidt Chapel). This old-fashioned baseball game played by the wildly different rules of 1858 pits the “Town vs. Gown” teams (university faculty members and alumni vs. City of Elmhurst) in a battle for bragging rights as Elmhurst’s finest strikers and hurlers. Bring a picnic and lawn chair and get ready to cheer, jeer, and enjoy an afternoon of old-school family fun. More info at elmhursthistory.org.

Reminder! No Biking on Business District Sidewalks

Now that summer is upon us, children and teens are riding their bicycles to enjoy everything our beautiful City has to offer. As a reminder, bicycles must be walked on sidewalks when in the City's business districts. This is a City ordinance and safer for everyone, including cyclists, pedestrians, and business patrons.

Cyclists should lock their bicycles to available racks to prevent theft and keep walking areas clear. Theft of an unlocked bicycle can happen in seconds.

Please have a conversation with your children and teens about these important bicycle safety tips to keep pedestrians, themselves, and their rides safe. Remember, safety starts with US!

Special Kids Day, City Works!

In partnership with Elmhurst’s Special Kids Day organization, the City of Elmhurst aims to create a unique experience for individuals with special needs; a “City Works” tour to learn how cities operate. The environment will be designed for participants to feel comfortable and free to explore different stations. Departments will provide demonstrations, hands-on activities, public safety tips, and a fun opportunity tailored for individuals with special needs to interact with the city employees and elected officials who provide essential services to the community. No registration required!

Police Resume Bike & Summer Mobile Patrols

The Elmhurst Police Department Bicycle Patrol Unit and the Summer Mobile Patrol Unit provide officers with opportunities for community engagement while on patrol. The Bicycle Unit and Summer Mobile Patrol Unit have grown and evolved into an integral part of the department’s enforcement and community relations efforts. Both units are used on a daily basis with officers either riding the bicycles on regularly scheduled shifts or signing up to ride the summer mobile patrol unit. Several patrol vehicles are equipped with bike racks, so officers can take bicycles with them on a daily basis. The program has been well-received by the public and promotes a greater relationship between the officers, our youth, and the community.
