Dear Friends,
Thomas Cahill, when describing certain moments in history, refers to "hinge" moments. These are events in time that usher out the old and inaugurate something new. Today, the Church celebrates such a moment in time.
Two months after Mary's invitation from Gabriel to bear and raise Jesus, she travels to her cousin Elizabeth. Elizabeth, at a very old age, is also pregnant and near birthing her son, John the Baptist. We are told that even John the Baptist, still unborn, leaped for joy in his mother's womb when Mary arrived. Thus we are shown, side by side, the two women, one seemingly too old to have a child, but destined to bear the last prophet of the Old Covenant, of the age that was passing away; and the other woman, seemingly not ready to have a child, but destined to bear the One Who was Himself the beginning of the New Covenant, the age that would not pass away. A hinge moment in our tradition.
At this greeting, Mary sings a song that is well known and loved in the Church: the Magnificat. The Parish Choir of Grace Church will sing Mark Engelhardt's version of this canticle at Choral Evensong on Sunday at 4:00 pm.
In the Way of Love,
Debbie

This week we observe Trinity Sunday. Trinity Sunday is one of the seven principle feast days of the year and the only one that addresses squarely what we believe as Christians. The tradition of the Sunday following Pentecost marking the Holy Trinity began when Thomas Becket was consecrated Archbishop of Canterbury on that day in 1162 and called for the observance of Trinity Sunday on that day ever after.
Rublev’s icon, shown above, painted in the early 15th Century is the most famous attempt to capture the concept of the Trinity in art. It leaves the impression that our God resides in an ongoing conversation of creation, redemption, and sanctification and that we are invited to sit at God’s table and enter into the conversation. We are so fortunate to be able to sit together at Grace Church as we give thanks for God’s abiding presence.
Services are offered at 10:00 am and 4:00 pm and are also broadcast on Facebook Live. Leaflets may be found on our website.
At 10:00 am, Lisa Duffy will lector and Angela Williams and Faith Aroko are our ushers. The Church School will meet at 10:00 am for a lesson and to work in the Abundant Life Garden before they join us at the Peace.
At 4:00 pm the Parish Choir will sing Choral Evensong upon Trinity Sunday. The canticles are by Mark Engelhardt, previous Music Director at Grace Church, the Preces and Responses are by our Rector, Debbie Phillips, and the anthem "A Prayer of St. Patrick" is by another previous Music Director and our current Senior Warden, Ryan Patten. Paul Massari will read the lessons and Christine Reichert will usher.
Please join us wherever you are
in your search for meaning.
Everyone is welcome at any and all services at

| Announcing our New Music Director | |
On Sunday, June 18th, we will welcome Mark Peterson as our new music director. Mark N. Peterson recently retired as director of music at Barton College in Wilson North Carolina. His primary duty at Barton was the direction of the Barton College/Wilson Symphony, a privately endowed, professional ensemble, presenting several concerts annually. He conducted over one hundred concerts with the BC/WS usually featuring extraordinary, international guest artists.
A native of Haverhill Massachusetts, Peterson holds degrees from Boston University and the University of New Hampshire and served for many years on the faculties of Bradford College and the University of Massachusetts Lowell. At Barton College, he also directed the college choir and has served as music director for numerous college musical theater productions.
Peterson also served as director of music at the Parish of St. Therese in Wilson, where he provided his congregation with a “well regulated” music program, which includes a steady diet of Bach organ music. Before moving south, Peterson served at several parishes in the North Shore region, including Clifton Lutheran (Marblehead), First Parish (Wakefield), and Christ Church (Andover).
We are so excited to have Mark join us as we continue to lift our voices and instruments in praise of God.
