Monday, June 19 at 6:00 p.m. Search for the Signers: Book Talk with Author and Kent native Jennifer Epstein. Jennifer Epstein Rudnick knew she wanted a career in history after being inspired by her fifth-grade teacher. She grew up in Kent and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Gettysburg College. She has worked for the National Park Service at several sites, and for more than 20 years, has been on the National Mall in Washington, DC, hoping to inspire the next generation of historians like her teacher did for her. She lives in Northern Virginia with her husband and enjoys reading, traveling, baseball, and spending time with her niece and nephew. Free & Open to the Public. Please register.

Wednesday, June 21 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Summer Reading Kick-off Party! Come by the Junior Room to learn more about the summer of All Together Now. Find out about all the events and activities the Library has to offer this summer! Pick up your first BINGO sheet, do a craft, have a snack, play some games, and let’s have some fun! Registration opens for Library Camp, for kids entering K-4th Grade (you must register for each individual week, space is limited). Kids of all ages are welcome to participate. Wednesday, June 21 from 6:00 to 8:45 p.m. Teen & Tween Summer Reading Kick-off Party with Pizza and a Movie. Come find out about our Summer Program for Tweens, and the Rewards that await you! Bring your appetite and stay for a screening of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) (Rated PG-13). Attendance at this event counts for one point towards the summer’s eight point goal. Tuesday, June 27 at 6:00 p.m. Healing With Horses. Art Reception and Program. Join KML's current artist Allison May Gennings for a conversation regarding the incredible nature and presence that horses hold for humans as they work through a variety of changes and emotions. This program will include some factual information regarding horses as a prey animal and their natural instincts, as well as anecdotal stories and experiences of Allison's from working with horses and people for the past 3.5 years in a healing environment. Equine experiential education and therapy are on the rise, with more scientific studies backing up why working with these beautiful animals is so effective. This is a time to share from first-hand experience how they can effect change in people's lives. Free & Open to the Public. Please register.

Wednesday, June 28 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. First Day of Library Camp! 2 hours of summer fun at the Library! Library Camp is a drop-off program for kids entering Grades K-4. We’ll have stories, games, crafts, snacks, special guests, and more! We will be meeting in the Junior Room of the library. Registration opens at the Summer Reading Program kick-off party on June 21 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, or you can register by calling or emailing the Junior Room after June 21, to register. Registration is required.

Overview page about the transition to Libby: This informational page for users includes an overview about the sunset, FAQs, and training opportunities.
Virtual training: Users can sign up for a virtual training session hosted by team OverDrive.
Options for Kindle Fire devices: Amazon has not yet accepted our submission of the Libby app to the Amazon Appstore so the OverDrive app will remain available for Kindle Fire users to download and access until further notice. Users with Kindle Fire devices can also sideload Libby manually following these steps.

Books Make Great Gifts All Year Long!

Did you know? We have three glass cases inside the Library filled with very special books – all for sale? See books signed by Ogden Nash, Alexander Woollcott (member of the Algonquin Round Table and model for Sheridan Whiteside in “The Man Who Came to Dinner”), Erica Jong, Gertrude Lawrence, A.S. Byatt and artist David Armstrong.
Also a pamphlet signed by paleoanthropologist Mary Leakey, and early Seth McFarlane drawings.

There’s a second case full of books by Kent’s Eric Sloane. And in the Reading Room — beautifully-bound books from the Franklin Library and the Easton Press, at only $10 each. All great gifts for the collector!
Help Pond Mountain
Preserve the Harper Lot
Pond Mountain Natural Area is a hidden gem of nearly 800 acres surrounding Fuller Pond. It has been enjoyed by the public for over 50 years. Currently, There is a fundraising effort (the first in Pond Mt’s history) with the goal of conserving an abutting parcel of land, the Harper Lot, that directly links Pond Mountain Natural Area to Macedonia State Park. Anyone interested in helping can find out more by visiting our website or contacting Steve Pener.

The Kent Seed Library is full of seeds for this year’s growing season. While it is still early, it is a good time to start thinking about what you would like to grow this year.
The Kent Memorial Library has lots of gardening books to get your creativity flowing. Our Seed Library is here for patrons to “borrow’ seeds to grow. In return, please make an effort to donate some seed for others to use at a later time. We even have great books on saving your own seed! Before you know it spring will be here!
