NLWIC Director Sharon McLennon delivered an in-person panel presentation at the CICan 2022 CONNECTION Conference on Tuesday, April 26 in Halifax, NS.

The presentation explored the impact NLWIC is having provincially, nationally and internationally, through collaborations and NLWIC-funded research projects - especially concerning the 8 projects that are finished to date (more on this to come)!

She also delved into the Regional Workforce Development Committees and how it is just one of NLWIC's mandated activities that is Accelerating Economic Growth and Prosperity in Newfoundland and Labrador.

In what’s being touted as a win-win-win scenario, CNA’s Office of Applied Research and Innovation (OARI) has teamed up with Municipalities NL (MNL) and the college’s Tourism & Hospitality program for a unique real-world educational experience for students.

Diverse women entrepreneurs, including Black women and other racialized women, Indigenous Peoples, persons with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQ+ individuals, have been among those most affected by the social and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite the array of challenges, women entrepreneurs have demonstrated an incredible resilience, ingenuity, and ability to innovate amid uncertainty.

This report provides an update on the state of women’s entrepreneurship in Canada based on a synthesis of existing research and the results of new research.

Demographics, technology and sustainability are among several shifts changing the jobs, skills and work arrangements that will be needed in the future. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated many of these changes and brought new labour force issues to the forefront.

This report examines five overarching trends and how they may affect the future of work in Atlantic Canada. Employers, workers, training institutions and governments will need to work together to facilitate a healthy, inclusive and sustainable labour market in light of these shifts. This report is the fourth in a series examining the labour skills challenge in the region.

The NL Workforce Innovation Centre (NLWIC) was established by the provincial government in 2017 and is administered by College of the North Atlantic (CNA) with a provincial mandate to provide a coordinated, central point of access to engage all labour market stakeholders about challenges, opportunities and best practices in workforce development. 

The Centre’s goal is to promote and support the research, testing and sharing of ideas and models of innovation in workforce development that will positively impact employability, employment and entrepreneurship within the province’s labour market and particularly underrepresented groups. Funding for NLWIC is provided by the Department of Immigration, Population Growth and Skills (IPGS) under the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Labour Market Development Agreement.
