VS Protocols

Dear SCPA Community,

With the current VS virus making its way through Southern California, the Board of Directors considered the USEF show protocol and veterinarian recommendations and have decided on the following path forward, effective immediately :

All horses coming to Sullivan Canyon (i.e., new horses being registered or horses returning from an extended period away) will be required to have a Health Certificate that is dated 2-5 days before the date of arrival, from a veterinarian just like is being required by USEF for all competitions. The certificate must attest that the horse shows no clinical signs of VS and that it is not coming from a property that has had suspected or actual cases of VS. Both things must be listed on the certificate.

All SCPA registered horses who have been at a competition or are otherwise gone for a short time (e.g., at a clinic) and are coming home can do so without a certificate provided that the show complied with USEF policy so that all horses had clean health certificates and inspections going into the show AND that there was no outbreak at the show. If the certificates were not mandatory so exposure is unknow, a vet certificate WILL be required. Alternatively, if there is an outbreak at the the show grounds before you leave, even if the outbreak is far from where you are stabled, your horse must remain in quarantine until there have been no further cases on that site for 10 days. Once that period is over, you will be cleared to come home with a certificate attesting to that cleared state at the facility and your horse's clean bill of health.

Please know that veterinarians are in high demand right now due to the requirements for certificates at all shows, so please be sure to allow yourselves time to get the certificate if you have a new horse coming in and are lining up transportation.

Also, this is a very fluid situation, so the SCPA may change these requirements if we deem it prudent to keep our horses safe.

Thank you all for your cooperation,

The SCPA Board of Directors
