Public Works Week is May 15 - 21!
Public Works Week is celebrated across the country annually to show appreciation to those whose jobs ensure our communities run smoothly. Whether it's brush and leaf collection, snow removal, road repairs or cleaning up after a storm, Amberley Village Maintenance Department is always at the ready to ensure our Village is in tip-top shape. Council will pass legislation resolving Amberley Village support of this annual nationwide celebration of our Maintenance Department. Be sure and join us in our appreciation for all they do!
Police Memorial Week is May 11 - 17!
Amberley Village annually recognizes the sacrifice, dedication and hard work of its Police Department by participating in National Police Week and Light Ohio Blue. Council traditionally passes a resolution recognizing these campaigns in the Village, and takes the opportunity to thank and appreciate our Police for all they do to go over and above the call of duty to increase our quality of life. This year, the resolution will go before Council at the May 9 meeting. Show your support by attending the meeting, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers!

What is National Police Week?
National Police Week occurs every May, and in 2022, live, in-person events are scheduled in Washington D.C and throughout the country . National Police Week will be observed from May 11–17. The National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum will hold ceremonies, including the 34th Annual Candlelight Vigil, to honor the fallen officers whose names have recently been added to the Memorial.
President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.
National Police Week is a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America’s law enforcement community. Ohio hosts its own support campaign, entitled Light Ohio Blue, and the annual Police Memorial will be held in Downtown Cincinnati on May 10 at 11 a.m. Learn more below!

Community Open House a Success!
Amberley Village Police Department held an Open House on Thursday, April 28. K-9 Creed and the entire AVPD hosted a movie-themed Open House, complete with popcorn and movie ticket giveaways!
Residents viewed the video above, and received a first-hand account of the range of services and opportunities available through the AVPD. Residents also had the chance to meet officers and senior leadership and update their resident information. Valuable links and files were distributed on a flash drive that can be used to store everything from tax returns to Garage Sale applications.
"Thanks to all who came to the Open House, contributed to the video and presentation, or volunteered for the event - our Officers and Staff appreciate your support!" said Chief Rich Wallace. "I want to thank all of our residents for their continued support and partnership. Let's continue to work together to keep our community safe!"

Police Levy Won't Raise Taxes
Amberley Village voters will see a Police Levy Renewal on this year's May 3 ballot. The Levy Renewal will not increase taxes, but will rather renew the current tax levy at the same rate.
The Hamilton County Auditor's Office estimates the levy will generate approximately $1.3 million per year for the next five years. For more information, visit the link below!

Property Maintenance: Grass Cutting Season is Here!
Spring is officially here, and with summer just around the corner, it's time to resume grass cutting and yard services! Amberley Village wishes to remind residents of a few important rules to help keep your spring and summer yard care running smoothly and according to Code.
Grass should be no more than 10 inches. Residents are asked to keep grass clippings out of the street and away from catch basins.
Top and bottom right photos show examples of grass at excessive lengths, which could result in neighbor complaints and a possible compliance call from the Village. Below, an example of what NOT to do, as grass clippings in the gutter can cause storm water issues in culverts and catch basins.

Reminder: Drug Takeback Day is Tomorrow!
National DEA Drug Takeback Day returns on Saturday, April 30! Bring unwanted prescriptions to Amberley Village Police Station for safe disposal from 10 am to 2 pm. Prescriptions should be removed from their original bottle and placed in a plastic bag prior to drop-off.
Amberley Village remains a 24/7 drop-off site for unwanted prescriptions. DEA National Drug Takeback Day is a semi-annual reminder to residents across the U.S. that unwanted prescription drugs should be disposed of responsibly to prevent accidental overdose and contamination. Questions? Call Office Mark Roeseler at 513-531-2040.

Reminder: One Stop Drop This Sunday!
Join Amberley Village in its commitment to diverting waste from the landfill, and plan to join us for the 9th Annual One Stop Drop at Amberley Green on Sunday, May 1 from noon - 3 p.m. Brought to you by the Amberley Village Environmental Stewardship Committee, this three hour event provides a convenient drive-through drop-off experience that's open to residents and neighbors in surrounding communities.
In recent years, the event seems to be most heavily attended at the noon start, so residents hoping to get through the line quicker are invited to consider driving through after 1:30 p.m. Be sure and invite friends, neighbors and family - hope to see you there!
As a reminder to all residents, recycling should be placed in bins loose (not in bags) and after rinsing any residue or debris. Contamination is the number one barrier to effective recycling.
Please note that all trash and recycling should only be placed at the curb no more than 24 hours before pickup and no more than 24 hours after pickup. Bins placed at the curb prior to Thursday and after Saturday morning are subject to possible notification by Village Property Maintenance. Please do not place bins in the street.
Please do your part to be neighborly and considerate to both other Village residents and Rumpke workers. Questions? Contact Carolyn Wallis at cwallis@amberleyvillage.org or at 513-531-8675.

Amberley Village is committed to keeping lines of communication open and accessible between residents and government officials. In this spirit, Amberley Village has incorporated Village-issued email addresses for Councilmembers into its digital communications protocol.
These measures unify the format, making it easier for residents to send a message when an issue comes to mind. The member's first initial followed by last name (no space) @amberleyvillage.org will get your message on its way to members of the Amberley Village Council.
