COMMUNITY CALENDAR

Sunapee Happenings

“Daybreak on a May Morning"

It’s officially, unofficially summer... the weather is ahead of the calendar and "June is Bustin’ Out All Over”… all over the meadows and hillsides surrounding Lake Sunapee... and we’re all eager to welcome the change in the weather and the change in the view!  Enjoy the season that lies ahead!

June was perhaps best described by Rogers & Hammersteins’ music for “Carousel”. Don’t miss the rollicking video at the close of this week’s newsletter.

SUNAPEE SPOTLIGHT

The Abbott Library welcomes a new Director.

Welcome, Malia!

May 26, 2023

Dear Staff, The Friends of Abbott Library, The Abbott Library Foundation and the Sunapee Community,

It is with great pleasure that the Abbott Library Board of Trustees announce the appointment of Ms. Malia Ebel as the new Abbott Library Director. She will begin on June 26, 2023.

Ms. Ebel comes to us from the Colby Sawyer’s Susan Colgate Cleveland Library where she held the position of College Librarian (Library Director). After an extensive interview process the board agreed unanimously that Ms. Ebel was the best choice to lead the library forward.

Additionally, Ms. Ebel is a Sunapee resident who, with her son, has enjoyed the library greatly. Please take time this summer to welcome Malia; we are sure she will enjoy getting to know you all.

Sincerely,

Bev Bjorklund,

Chair, The Abbott Library Board of Trustees

Reflective Markers

The Sunapee Fire Department Association reminds all Sunapee residents that your emergency responders can't promptly provide the help you need if we can't find you. Please help us, and your local delivery services, by posting a visible street number of your residence or business where it can be seen from the street. Waterfront residences should also have it posted on the dock or side of the house facing the water as the response may be coming by watercraft as well.

Town Ordinance requires the number to be at least 4" high and reflective. Numbers can be purchased from any of the local building supply stores, or from the Sunapee Fire Department Association by downloading an order form from our website (sunapeefireassoc.org) or our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/SunapeeFireAssociation)

A playful new adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters – sensible Elinor and passionate Marianne – after their father’s sudden death leaves them financially destitute and socially vulnerable. Set in gossipy late 18th century England, with a fresh female voice, the play is full of humor, emotional depth, and bold theatricality. Sense and Sensibility examines our reactions, both reasonable and ridiculous, to societal pressures. When reputation is everything, how do you follow your heart?  Learn More

Internet, telephone and mail SCAMS are saturating the air lately.

Neither Comcast, Xfinity nor your bank will contact you by email to change or renew your password! Do not open emails regarding packages you have not ordered or prizes you have won! You have not inherited grand sums of money from a stranger! You do not have a relative in jail needing bail! Your best friend does not need your credit card to purchase an Amazon gift certificate! Do not renew insurance on a car you no longer own! Tho many such email or PO mail scams appear to be real, beware! Misspelled words in such a notice are frequently a clue to the Scam. IRS does not contact people by telephone requesting overdue tax payments in cash!  Never share any personal information on the telephone with persons unknown to you. Once such information is shared, it is usually impossible for police to help cancel such transactions.
