November 2022 Shelter Snapshot

The generous support of staff, volunteers, and donors enables GMHS to provide daily care, cover special medical needs, foster animals in homes as needed, and arrange transportation to adoption-guaranteed partners. We are also committed to education, outreach, and transparency. Our annual statistics are available on our website, and we also offer you a monthly snapshot.

Home for the Pawlidays Adoption Special

GMHS is dedicated to giving our very best effort in finding homeless pets loving forever homes before the holiday.

As always, we are committed to making sure every pet goes home with a wonderful family, and every family is paired with a pet who meets their expectations and is a best fit for their lifestyle.

Please share the great news: Until December 31, adopters will spend less on adoption fees and more on toys and treats for their new pets! Simply pick an ornament from our Adoption Tree and receive a discounted adoption fee on all of our pets. Click here to view all available pets and fill our your adoption questionnaire.

Backyard Buddies Need Homes

Callie is a two-year-old member of our Backyard Buddy program.

We have several amazing Backyard Buddies, also known as barn cats, at GMHS who have received all of their vaccinations and been spayed/neutered and microchipped. All they need now is a home!

Adoption fees for Backyard Buddies are sponsored, and they make super outdoor cats. If you would like to adopt and are prepared to provide them with food and shelter, submit your adoption questionnaire today!

Check out cats available for adoption and look for Backyard Buddy in the description. If you would like more information about our Backyard Buddies and how this program saves livesemail us today.

Compassionate Community

Illusions Motorcycle Club delivered a check to GMHS from the proceeds of their September poker run. Many thanks to Illusions MC for supporting the homeless pets of GMHS! We are grateful for your life-saving friendship.

The Children's Ministry at Severn Church collected supplies in the month of October for GMHS. Jennifer Hart and her daughter Zoey Hart are pictured with the donations. We appreciate your heart for homeless pets!

Many thanks to our dear friend Alexandra! She made dog treats to donate to GMHS. Our pups loved them! Thank you, Alexandra, for sharing your heart for our homeless pets.

The Heffner family brought some holiday cheer to the pets of GMHS, and we are grateful for the donation of pet supplies. We are thankful to call you our friends!

Many thanks to Muddy Marley's Dog Wash for providing Barksgiving dinner for all of our shelter dogs! Thank you for bringing some joy to the pets of GMHS during the holiday season.

Shelter Pet Highlight - Mickey

"Mickey is so special to everyone at the shelter. He is very loved! We just want to see Mickey thrive in a home outside of the shelter like he deserves. The next best thing would be a foster home while we find his forever home. He is one of a kind and will give you so much love!"

-Laura Klein, GMHS Highway to Home/Foster Manager

Mickey had a hemangiosarcoma removed in March of this year. The pathology report cited a 77% chance of recurrence and an estimated survival time of approximately 3 years. The sarcoma began to grow back before the stitches were removed. We had full scans done and they were clear, showing no mets. Mickey is an amazing dog, and we don't want him to spend whatever time he has left in the shelter.

Could you be the match Mickey is looking for? Please reach out to Laura by email or call 804-693-5520 ext. 111.

Not in a position to foster or adopt Mickey? You can still help by sharing this email with your friends!
