From the moment that the Jewish calendar enters the month of Elul we begin to say the 27th chapter of Tehillim known as LāDavid. Like most any tefillah that we say, we rush through it. Yes, it is true, it is added to the end of Shachrit and Maariv and, therefore, we are rushing out anyway.

Towers of (no) Babel
Middle schoolers in Mr. Duke's new Engineering & Industrial Design Explo were challenged to build the tallest and structurally sound towers possible out of drinking straws and a limited number of suppliesāall without being able to verbally communicate with their teammates during the build. The winning structure rose higher than 68 inches!

A Penny Saved
Third Graders in Mr. Simon's class settled in with a good book to start the first day! Each day reading time is scheduled so everyone gets a chance to reset and prepare for learning as well as sharing. On their first day of school, the class focused on Math and Social Studies. They investigated numbers through the thousands and discussed number placement. They also shared birthdays and showed those days on a number placement graph! The class had a good time reading a story, "Benjamin Franklin and the Penny Whistle". They learned the value of saving and being smart shoppers! "A penny saved is a penny earned", declared Benjamin Franklin.

Insightful Words
Mr. Cell's 9th-10th grade AP US History students and 11th-12th AP US Government students are writing in class essays this week, answering prompted questions, based on the assigned books that they read this summer. They are being challenged to show how a close and thoughtful reading prepares them to write an insightful essay.

Davening Time
Students in Morah Sandy's EC3A class are learning to love davening in including hand washing and giving tzedaka. The class also uses this special circle time learning the Torah parsha, Ki Tetzeiāhow we are commanded to ā shooā a bird away before we take its eggs.

Student Community
Ms. Ruben's middle school English classes jumped right into their first assignment of the school year. The students are creating personal one pagers- creative displays which allow them to reflect on who they are, share with the class, and brighten up the room as a community of students.

Second Grade Superstars
Students in Ms. Morrison's 2nd grade class had fun reuniting with old friends and making new ones. They read the poem "Second Grade Superstars" and identified the rhyming words. They also played get to know you games and practiced their yoga poses!

Chumash Review
Seventh grade students in Morah Rivkie's Chumash class began the year with an introduction reviewing concepts such as what is Tanach, Torah, Chumash, Lashon HaKodesh, and some cool hidden meanings and sings in the aleph bet. The class also went over the timeline from Creation to Sefer Bamidbar, which they will be learning this year.

Learning Goals
Morah Aviva's EC4A had an amazing first day of school! Everyone was asked what they wanted to learn this year, and Morah charted their responses. The students are adjusting to new routines, new centers, and new friends.

This week students in Morah Chaya's 5th grade Judaic Studies class began learning about the month of Elul and the chaggim from inside their chumashim.

First Day Fun
Students in Morah Clara's EC3B class had a blast on their first day of school. They learned all about their classroom, centers, and what their new routines. Everyone had fun reconnecting and making new friends. The students created "messy mats" that they will use throughout the school year in all their projects.

On the first day of school, seventh-graders in Mr. Dukeās social studies class created a tier list, ranking different factors that help define a studentās middle school experience.

This week in Morah Tsippi's EC2B children had a great time getting to know each other, learn some classroom rules and routines, and making new friends! We are looking forward to a fun year of growth and development in many areas.

This week students in Ms. Morrison's 4th grade class started their first day by getting organized. It was wonderful to hear all the ideas the kids had of "What a great class is." They also enjoyed playing "Would You Rather" and "Name that student!"

This week second graders in Morah Chaya's Judaic Studies class started to learn Lashon Hakodesh. They began with Yechid/Yechida and Rabim/ Rabot. Then they finished off the week with Parsha.

High School Volleyball
The High School Volleyball team will open up their season with a game on September 7th at Living Stones. The practice schedule can be accessed by clicking here and the game schedule can be accessed by going to the school calendar or by clicking here.
Middle School Volleyball
The MS girls volleyball team will open up their season with two games next week. On Tuesday, the girls will play a home opener against St. Mark's Episcopal at 4:30. They will then follow up that game with a 4:30 game at Grace School on Wednesday, August 30th.
