Today, artist Bruce Stillman gave fifth grade a tour of his Big Stone Sculpture Gardens, and then the students got to play mini golf among the works.

Eighth Grade D.C. Trip

A week ago, we embarked on a culminating and illuminating trip to Washington, D.C. We had the time of our lives bonding as a small class in our nation’s capital. We were fortunate to visit the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, National Museum of American History, National Museum of African American History and Culture, and National Gallery of Art. We also toured the Capitol building.

We enjoyed attending a production of Shear Madness at the Kennedy Center. There were so many fun activities such as the city bike tour and night swimming in our hotel pool. One highlight was meeting Representative Dean Phillips on the steps of the Capitol. He taught us about his job as a legislator and how he balances working between Minnesota and D.C. We are grateful to Ms. Thor and our four amazing chaperones, Ms. Smith, Mr. Mike, Rabbanit Dalia, and Judy Levitan, for helping to make this trip possible. Special thanks to Architect of the Capitol's Marty Shore, Coalition for the Homeless speaker Ron Gardener, and bike tour leader Greg from Unlimited Biking for adding to our meaningful and memorable trip. This trip was an amazing end to our time at Heilicher and is now a core memory that we can’t wait to share and reminisce about at our senior walk in four years!

Torah Thoughts and Pirkei Avot with Doc

Read a brief message about this week’s Shavuot Torah selection and the Book of Ruth. The Book of Ruth provides a model for inviting God’s presence into human interactions.

It is a long-standing Jewish practice to study Pirkei Avot (Chapters/Ethics of the Fathers) each Shabbat afternoon during the Omer, between Pesach and Shavuot. This works out to one chapter each Shabbat. Consider Avot 6 and the importance of studying Torah.

Color Run Fundraiser

The students have surpassed $20,000! Let's keep working toward our goal of 100% participation and $36,000 to support Heilicher’s arts and athletics. If we hit 100% participation per class, each class will get to pick a fun way to celebrate (pajama day, extra recess, movie day, etc.), and if we hit $36,000 we will celebrate with a pool party. They have already earned a visit from an ice cream truck as a reward for reaching $18,000!

There are only 14 days left of the fundraiser! Please share the fundraising web page with friends and family. Go to the main page and search for your student by their first name and last initial. To promote the fundraiser, consider having your child send a short video of why they love Heilicher with the appeal to friends and family. Watch a fun, short video Jonah F. made as an example.

Heilicher Maccabi Games and Color Run Friday, June 2 — Dismissal will be at 2 p.m.

Heilicher will provide each student with a white T-shirt for the run.
