Did You Know?

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline was launched on July 16, 2022. The new number will replace the former 10-digit National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, 1-800-273-8255. Both present and former numbers will remain active to assist callers with any concerns regarding their mental health. The number change was a reaction to the increased concern for mental health during the pandemic. 988 is supported by many policymakers as it was a bipartisan bill passed in 2020. A mix of local, state and federal resources have been allocated for its present operation. If ever in need of assistance, 988 is a free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in the United States. Mentorship Spotlight

Mentee, Ariana Sheikhai (left) was first partnered with Mentor Judge Iravani-Sani’s (right) in 2019. At the time, Ariana was an

undergraduate at UC Berkeley. Judge Iravani-Sani has guided Ariana's legal career since then by giving great advice and introducing her to other legal professionals. This summer (2022), Ariana worked as a judicial intern for Judge Iravani-Sani, during which time she was able to learn even more. Ariana conducted legal research and observed each stage of a trial from beginning to end.

Now, Ariana is a law student at UC Davis. She graduated from UC Berkeley in 2021 with a B.A. in Rhetoric. She is the director of the student volunteer program at Moms Against Poverty.

In addition, IAW Foundation is honored to share that Judge Iravani-Sani has been selected by The Santa Clara Bar Association as 2022 Woman Jurist of the Year.

Women Leadership Conference

IAWF is excited to share that we will host our Women's Leadership Conference on Sunday, October 16th, 2022 at the Westin San Francisco Airport hotel! IAW Foundation Rising Leaders Event Recap:

IAW Foundation's Los Angeles Rising Leaders Chapter participated in an adventurous summer event! Participants went on a group hike at Los Liones on Sunday, July 17th. The hike was followed by a wind down at a local spot, Edo Bites at the Pacific Palisades Village. The event was filled with great conversations, meaningful connections, and a great deal of fun.
