Dear Jenna,

Last week, Ravenswood students and teachers celebrated the 100th Day of School - an exciting elementary school milestone! Classes rallied together to read 100 books, make necklaces with 100 beads, do 100 jumping jacks, and engage in many other joyful learning activities. The day serves as a fun reminder of how much progress we’ve made this year and encouragement to make the most of every day of the second half of the school year.

On the REF front, we’re working with the Ravenswood City School District on our collaborative budget process. This involves a very intentional gathering of data and feedback about our regular programming plus the Ravenswood Talent Initiative, the work to retain, recruit and reward our most effective educators through raising salaries and revamping the evaluation system.

To gauge the impact of our programs and explore priorities for next year, REF board members have met with:

  • the superintendent, Gina Sudaria, and central office staff
  • all principals
  • every elementary homeroom teacher and specials teacher
  • key representatives from the middle school

This is a mammoth task but so rewarding and will enable us to put together a bold, strategic, student-centered budget that uses your generous contributions to most effectively meet students’ needs.

Shine Brighter Together

In order to support these strategic priorities, we will be holding our annual spring fundraising event. We hope you can join us on April 28th at EPACENTER for Shine Brighter Together. It’s going to be a radiant evening shining a light on our collective commitment to Ravenswood students and schools. If you are interested in joining the host committee as a table or community host or as a corporate sponsor, please let me know. Thank you for supporting this impactful event!

P.S. Like many of our Bay Area friends, we’re experiencing power outages here in Ravenswood. District staff is working closely with the city and PG&E to make sure families have power and schools are fully open as soon as possible. Hope you are staying warm!
