November Election
The upcoming election is one of the most important of our lifetime, and there are important changes that you need to know. There are three different ways that you can vote. Choose the best for you.

It is now too late to request an absentee ballot. If you requested a ballot you should have received it.
For your ballot to be counted
- You must sign the certification statement
AND
- It MUST BE POSTMARKED BY NOVEMBER 3 by 8 PM

Halloween - Think Twice and Be Safe in the age of COVID-19
The Baltimore City Department of Health has issued guidelines as to how to make Halloween safe.
Remember, regardless of age- traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating, indoor house parties, and indoor haunted houses are not advisable during an active pandemic, and can significantly increase the chances of disease transmission!

The Urbaneks and Renzis invite you to next neighborhood Sidewalk Serenade, featuring The High and Wides. It will be between their two yards (301 Tuscany and 200 Ridgemede) and the hill and sidewalk across the street. There should be plenty of room for social distancing.
The High & Wides draw on their backgrounds in bluegrass to take the music to a place of their own with inspiration from the days when old-time, rockabilly, western swing, and proto-rock'n'roll mingled in a murky soup of hillbilly string band music.

Public Transit Service Cut in Baltimore City Will Not be Implemented
|
|
|
Hello Community Member,
Last week we provided information about the service changes proposed by Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA), and we are now reaching out to inform you of new developments to share with your members and networks. MDOT MTA recently announced that Core Bus service adjustments proposed on September 1, 2020 will not be implemented and all public hearings on that plan will be canceled.
The decision to make this adjustment is due to current ridership trends across all modes and the significant public feedback MDOT MTA received on the initial proposal. While employers continue to support telework options and customers limit their use of transit to essential travel, ridership on commuter services continues to rebound slower than expected. In the fourth week of September, ridership across all MDOT MTA transit modes was down 60% overall, with MARC down 89%, Commuter Bus down 87% and Core Local Bus down 51%.
As MDOT MTA works to meet budgetary constraints amid the fiscal impact of COVID-19, the agency will continue to prioritize transit service for core riders, especially transit dependent households. Core Local Bus and MobilityLink service will maintain current schedules, though all Express Bus Routes and LocalLinks 38 and 92 will remain suspended. Commuter Bus and MARC service will begin operating at reduced levels on November 2, 2020.

COMING: Decreased Speed Limit on University Parkway |
Tuscany-Canterbury priorities include making University Parkway safer for everyone. It was requested that University Parkway's speed should decrease to 25 mph.
Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke said the request has been approved and signs are being made for the change.

Update October 2020: The work is nearly finished. The fence will be installed only around the existing recycling operation next week with the gates to follow a week or two later. By the end of October beginning of November all work should completed. At the present time there are no plans for the site.

Redevelopment plans for Village of Cross Keys move forward with planning approval
The new owners of the Village of Cross Keys cleared a key hurdle in their efforts to expand the community when Baltimore’s Planning Commission approved a City Council bill that would allow them to carry out their plans.
The planning board voted 9 to 0 at a virtual meeting to recommend that the Council pass legislation that paves the way for 350 new apartments, a grocery store, office space and other additions to the property at 5100 Falls Road in North Baltimore.
Caves Valley Partners bought the commercial assets of Cross Keys for $27 million last month and disclosed plans to invest up to $175 million over the next five to seven years to upgrade and expand the mixed-use community, which was opened in the 1960s by developer James Rouse.

Received an award from the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art for a painting he did.

“Please, won’t you be my neighbor,” sings Fred Rogers and we all can relate to that call for kindness and civility in these crazy times . The following is the first of many such articles on one of our neighbors.
John Davis Held, our neighbor on Ridgemede, is an artist recently honored by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, receiving an Award of Merit for his painting “The Goldfinch”, from an exhibition Fabulous Forgeries at The Troika Gallery in Easton, MD. John’s work is described by the gallery as known “for capturing atmospheric scenes,in which he has the innate ability to translate what one might see as an ordinary scene into a serene landscape of beauty and light.”
“Yes the technical ‘chops’ are required to paint a good painting,” John explains, "but it is one’s vision that brings magic to the piece.” John studied at The California Institute of Art where he was immersed in creative processes in music, theatre, and dance, as well as fine art.
He loves living in Tuscany Canterbury, where beautiful light fills his home studio. Kirsten, John’s wife, is an invaluable member of his team, and he credits her for his success in being represented by several galleries on the East Coast.

The dumpster will be delivered in the morning and will be here for 4 hours. A notice will be sent on November 28 when the dumpster arrives. The dumpsters in September and October were both full. Bulk items can be taken to the Sisson Street Collection Center from Monday through Saturday. |

Will leaves be collected this year with the regular trash pick-up? |

YES. Leaf collection season begins Monday, October 26, 2020, and will continue through Monday, January 4, 2021. The Department of Public Works (DPW) Bureau of Solid Waste will collect bagged leaves on regularly scheduled trash collection days. Solid Waste crews will collect up to 5 bags of leaves from each address every week.
Citizens are encouraged to avoid sweeping leaves into the streets, alleys, gutters or storm drains. Leaves should be bagged and set out for collection.

The latest “little Library” addition to the neighborhood is on the south side of Stony Run Lane. There are only two in the neighborhood: this one, and one at the One World Cafe. There are others nearby in other neighborhoods and in Linkwood Park at the playground.
It's a great way to share books.

Hughes Field Politics Center, Dr. Mileah Kromer oversees every aspect of the Goucher Poll, including survey instrument construction, sampling, data analysis, and the development of appropriate survey methodologies. In addition, she is responsible for interviewer training and lab supervision. Dr. Kromer also teaches courses on American politics and research methods. Her research interests include public opinion, survey research methodology, and American state politics.

Professor Martha S. Jones is a legal and cultural historian whose work examines how Black Americans have shaped U.S. democracy. Her recently published book, Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All, offers a new history of African American women’s political lives. She is also the author of Birthright Citizens: A History of Race and Rights in Antebellum America, which won awards from the Organization of American Historians, the American Historical Association and the American Society for Legal History. A frequent writer for broader audiences, her articles have appeared in The Washington Post, The Atlantic and other publications. Professor Jones holds a Ph.D. in history from Columbia University and a J.D. from the CUNY School of Law.
