This week's Torah reading, Achrei Mot, relates that two similar goats are selected by lottery for different roles. R' Hirsch suggests an understanding of these remarkably similar goats as the choice people must make between positive and negative.

Color Your World With:
JUDAISM! Today we pay tribute to the 6 million martyrs of the Holocaust who perished al Kiddush Hashem. May their neshamot have an aliyah, and may their memories be for a blessing and their legacies live on forever. We honor the strength of the survivors and their courage and determination to rebuild. We are here today because of their bravery. Today we were fortunate to hear from Dr. Hyman Penn, who spoke about his parents, Linda and Morris I. Penn, and maternal grandmother Reva Kremer, survivors of the Holocaust.

Every week a student from each one of Mrs. Gelman's 7thβ12th grade classes writes an original haiku about the parsha and a Dvar Torah about the Haftorah.
This week's H & H covering Parshat Achrei Mot features Gaby Brown (8) and Jacob Kupferman (11). Click here for some parsha inspiration you can share at your Shabbat table.

From the Desk of the STEAM Lab
Thank you to all the families and friends who zoomed on and came in person to our Early Childhood and Lower School STEAM Showcase. Students had a great time showing off all that they learned throughout the year and teaching students in other grades via various activities. Throughout the day-long event students enjoyed bubble experiments, creating butterflies with confetti poppers, making paper airplanes and boats out of recyclables, making Oobleck, learning about force, nature, safe roadways, bridges, volcanos, plants, the first telephone, the human heartbeat, catapults, structures, Hydrophilic vs. Hydrophobic, surface tension, and what it is to be a mensch. They enjoyed an apple stacking engineering challenge and coding and patterning with robots. A huge thank you to Adriana Price, Sarah Morrison, Jay Dela Cruz, and Fredis Cardona for putting the wonderful day together.

Learning about Israel
Students in Morah Aviva's ECE4A class are getting ready for Yom HaAtzmaut and are very excited to celebrate Israel's 74th birthday! The students created their own Degel Yisrael (flag of Israel) with tweezers, pom poms, paint, foam, and felt pieces. They learned that a Magen David is comprised of two triangles, one point up, and one pointing down. Each student drew their own triangles, traces them with a glue brush, and added blue foam and felt pieces to produce their own unique Magen Davids on their flags.

Ceramic Month
This week parents delved deep into our new slab roller at the Horim Lomdim ceramic session. They learned how to roll out a slab of class just like our 3rd and 4th grade students did for their washing cups that were painted this week. Parents also experimented with making impressions in clay just like our 1st graders did to create ceramic turtles and patterns on its back. Next week, the parents will paint their plates and turn them into beautiful platters ready for Shabbat. This week 2nd graders learned how to coil pots and how important it is to score and slip the layers, while 5th grade students explored pop art ceramic food creations.

Gan Shalshelet
This week middle and high school architecture classes made monumental progress in the entrance of the Gan Shalshelet work site. In addition to painting pavers in an ombre pattern and completing the painting of the benches, the middle school class completed the installation of our lock garden that was introduced at Grandparent and Special Friends Day. The shape of our installation was made to look like the Torah, which is a huge part of our lives. The high school group was able to add all the locks that were inscribed by the RMBA community and completed the "unlock your connection" portion of the murals painted under the library windows. This beautiful entrance reminds us to dig deep and unlock the important connections that we have not only to Hashem but also our friends, family, community, and those that inspire us on an ongoing basis.
