In Wildwood, Florence has created a cast of enduring characters and set them into a beautiful and brutal landscape. She makes you laugh and cry. She makes you sigh in wonder and rage against injustice. If you enjoy strong writing, factual historical detail, and a gripping story of perseverance, you’ll love Wildwood.

It Ends With Us
by Colleen Hoover
This book is a heartbreaking love story, filled with many surprises that will keep you hooked. Lily is a workaholic in a too-good-to-be-true romance, yet she can't stop thinking about her first love Atlas. Then Atlas shows up unexpectedly and everything is turned upside down. The author did an incredible job of tearing your heart apart, yet giving you hope again with each page you read.

Indians on Vacation
by Thomas King
Bird and Mimi are in Prague. They are from Ontario, travelling in Europe. Mimi who loves to travel, does her homework by reading travel books. She knows where the sights are, which buses to take, and which platform to find in a busy train station.
Bird is not fond of travelling at all. He is quite negative about everything. Mimi is undeterred.
Mimi has named Bird’s demons. Eugene: Self-loathing; Didi and Desi: the twins who represent Depression and Despair; Kitty: the catastropher ; and Chip: who has a chip on his shoulder.

Wilding: The Return of Nature to a British Farm by Isabella Tree
Wilding by Isabelle Tree describes her family's journey as they let their large estate in West Sussex, England, slowly "rewild". This was done thoughtfully but with delight as they watched nature take back the 1400 hectares. The experiment was a huge success. Wilding is beautifully written and inspiring to all of us who care about the birds, animals, insects, trees, and plants that belong in wild places. She pleads passionately for more of these places.

Fight Night
by Miriam Toews
I loved this novel. I related to each of the three female characters
as they navigated through different stages from childhood, to motherhood, and grandparent. Swiv, the prepubescent daughter/granddaughter, narrates
the story in an extended letter to her absent father. Her perspective
reminded me of how adult- behaviour, through a child's eyes, can be confusing and even appear downright crazy. Grandma Elvira wishes to pass on what she has learned about life and knows each person needs to "create light from within." This reminded me of my own grandparents. They lived to the end of their lives still possessing curiosity, humour, and a sense of wonder. This novel made me laugh out loud and moved me deeply. It is about the wonderful, difficult, messiness of being alive.

Violeta by Isabel Allende
Isabel Allende is one of my favorite authors and she definitely does not disappoint with her newest offering “Violeta”. From the 1920’s to present day we follow Violeta’s accounting of her life, written to the one she holds closest to her heart.
I highly recommend this beautifully written epic story of Violeta’s well-lived life.
