2022-2023 School Year Begins

The 2022-2023 school year begins on Thursday, August 18, 2022. Teachers report to school for Professional Development from August 15-17, 2022.

New Teachers Join Staff

Three new teachers will teaching English, math and business/finance classes this fall.

David S. will teach high school English.

Joy B. will be the new art teacher.

Tony S. will teach earth/space science, intro to business, and financial literacy.

The new staff members will be highlighted in the September issue of the newsletter.

ASOP Mourns Harrison

Harrison, ASOP's most loving therapy dog, the companion of school principal Annie, passed away in July. Staff and students at ASOP will miss Harrison when the school year begins. He loved everyone who he met, especially if they gave him a hug, a treat or a loving pet.

Building Renovation/

Wish List

Progress is continuing with the school renovations. The south building is painted and the new carpeting has been installed. New locks and codes have been installed on the outside doors.

We are still working with the City of Overland Park to secure a building permit to "knock a hole in the interior wall" that divides our one building into two separate buildings.

In an effort to ensure ASOP is providing the safest environment for our students, the buildings will undergo a security audit in August provided by the Overland Park Police Department.

Funding from this year's wish list donations will be used to pay for these upgrades. Thank you to all of our friends and donors who have already contributed!

Summer School Activities

Over the summer, ASOP students learned stop action animation, coding, how to build rockets, 3D printing, math, English and art, among other activities.

Boxtops for Education

The Boxtops for Education program now only accepts boxtops through an app. The good news is that you do not have to clip little boxes. The bigger issue is that you now have to download the app on your phone or tablet. Here is how the program works.

We're excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This opens up ASOP to new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students.

The best part? Donations don't come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply enter the product codes here: https://us.coca-cola.com/give/schools/ and our school receives a donation.

Depending on the Coke product, you can find the Product Codes under the caps on the larger bottles; on Fridgepacks, inside the tear-off flap; On shrink-wrapped cases, it is on the bottom of the carton under the shrink wrap. Not all packages have codes, so look for the My Coke Rewards Logo
