Sold at auction in Houston, TX on February 15th 2024.

The watercraft is emblazoned with a presidential seal and boasts three Mercury outboard engines that can propel the vessel to 75 mph (120 kph). The boat was used in the North Atlantic waters off Kennebunkport, where the Texas family has a summer retreat on the Maine coast.

It's the fifth of George H.W. Bush's speedboats to bear the name Fidelity. The first is on display at the Bush library and museum, and the fourth is still in use in Kennebunkport, Higgins said.

$500 million Cocaine Bust South of the Canary Islands

Having spent a year in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, any time news shows up from my old stomping ground, I pay attention.

Spanish Customs Surveillance Service, in a joint operation with the Civil Guard and National Police, announced on Thursday, February 15, the successful interception of the smuggling boat south of the Canary Islands

The officers boarded the small boat holding the drugs and four crew members, one of which is a well-known Galician drug trafficker.

They apprehend the suspects as an aerial view shows the sheer amount of drugs, roughly 4.35 tonnes, aboard the small boat. The National Crime Agency (NCA) of the United Kingdom and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) of the United States also provided assistance in the operation.

Carbon Neutrality for Boat Engines

The world's first recreational hydrogen fueled boat was unveiled on Wednesday Feb 13th at the Miami International Boat show. The boat will test the waters this summer.

Yamaha prototype H2 engine with Roush prototype fuel system.

Not quite ready for prime time just yet, and I remember working with Ford Labs back in the late 1970's where they were working on a hydrogen driven car running in the lab. Haven't seen hydrogen driven cars despite the environmentally friendly nature of them. So interesting technology, but......

Electric motors can’t compete with the range gas gets quite yet. For example, the study said a small boat might be able to make 166 miles over 14 hours from fossil fuel or replacement fuel. For an electric boat to match that range, the battery would be be bigger than the boat — and make it 820 percent heavier. It would require even more weight and storage in the boat to meet that small boat’s range with hydrogen. Yamaha acknowledges that the hydrogen boat is still in its infancy and there is a long way to go until boats are built to hold the huge tanks. But one day, consumers might see the value in giving up what might be valuable storage space for some fishing gear for an emissions free ride.

World’s fastest monohull:

Malizia-Seaexplorer IMOCA 60

The IMOCA 60 Malizia-Seaexplorer is the world’s fastest monohull, having set a blistering 24-hour record of 641.08 nautical miles while competing in The Ocean Race transatlantic leg. That's significantly better than hydrogen. Perhaps wind and foiling boats is the answer to marine environmental challenges.

Six Degrees Of Separation

who can I connect you to?

The theory that everybody on this planet is separated by only six other people. Six degrees of separation between us and everyone else. Never is it more true than if you work, or know somebody who worked, on a private yacht. (That would be me). Ever wonder how far away you are from a potential President of the United States.

In my younger years I crossed the Atlantic Ocean aboard the Feadship Highlander III. Belonging to Malcolm Forbes of Forbes Magazine. His entire family was on board. I was at the helm when this photo was taken.

If you know me, that's your connection to Presidential Candidate, Steven Forbes. Steve ran for President in 2000, and I was fortunate to be able to meet him again 30 plus years later during his campaign. Steve is now a regular contributor to the Fox Business Network.

How about you? Who can you tie all of us to? Drop me a note, I'll include you in future Newsletters.
