Introducing Our New FLTAs!

By Amy Holmes

We have three Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTAs) joining us this academic year! Eibhlín and Louise are living in the Green House and Germán is staying in Clemmons. Please consider inviting them to your classes (Davie Campus, Davidson Campus, virtual) for a mini-lecture, activity, or just to say hello. They have lots to offer us!

Additionally, our FLTAs want to experience North Carolina culture. Feel free to invite them to dinner, museums, hiking, kayaking, thrifting, or anything else that will immerse them in our culture.

Eibhlin NicCormaic

Eibhlín NicCormaic is from Galway, located on the west coast of the Republic of Ireland.

Digital Accessibility & Learning Design Got Married

By Amy Holmes

Over the summer, Digital Accessibility and Learning Design decided to take their relationship to the next level and became one united office. We'll continue to provide the same services to faculty and staff, and you'll notice that processes will become more efficient. We're working on updating our website to reflect these changes. Our office includes:

  • Trudy Brown, Instructional Designer
  • Kendra Guffey, Digital Accessibility Leader & Math Faculty
  • Amy Holmes, Director, Digital Accessibility & Learning Design

Tech Tutorials & Support

By Gretchen Benton

Fall is just around the corner! Check out these resources below which answer frequently asked questions:

  • Who do I reach out to about Moodle support?
  • How do students get help with Moodle?
  • How do I use that tool in Moodle?

Technology Tutorials in Freshdesk

Our Solution Articles are short video and written tutorials, such as Getting Started with Moodle, that provide step by step instructions for all of the tech tools used at DDCC. Our articles cover popular tools like YuJa, Zoom, and document accessibility.

Get Moodle Support

Are you having difficulty using Moodle? We encourage students and faculty to connect with the 24/7 Moodle Helpdesk! Support is available through online chat and by phone. To connect by phone, call 1-866-361-8965. They resolve almost 70% of issues within 5 minutes!

If the helpdesk cannot help you, you may be referred to Davidson Davie support for follow up during normal business hours. For faculty who want to start a ticket with Gretchen Benton, Director, Education Technology (Moodle LMS Admin) in the Teaching, Learning, and Global engagement office, please email edtech@davidsondavie.edu. Students can contact moodle@davidsondavie.edu to open a ticket as well.

YuJa is for Faculty, Staff, & Students

By Trudy Brown

Instructors

If you need something to do today while Moodle is down, why not create some lesson videos or video quizzes for your course using our new video platform: YuJa. You can use YuJa to create, store and post videos to Moodle. If you've previously opened YuJa through Moodle, you can go straight to the main YuJa login to access your account while Moodle is down. If you want your students to use YuJa, check out the Get Students Started with YuJa guide.

Staff

You'll always access YuJa through the main YuJa login, and will need to let us know that you'd like your access changed to "staff" instead of "student" by filling out this Staff access form. You can use YuJa to create, store, and share videos with others using links.

For Students

Please share the YuJa Student Solutions with your students! They can also create, edit, and store videos without using any storage space on Moodle. For example, videos can easily be shared through discussion forums without having to worry about file size or sharing through their Google Drive.

Questions?

Refer to our YuJa tutorials or reach out to trudy_brown@davidsondavie.edu

Moodle Maintenance - Thursday, Aug. 10th

By Gretchen Benton

Our Moodle site will be down for maintenance for the Moodle 4.1 update on Thursday August 10, 2023.

As a result, students and faculty will experience Moodle downtime. We expect that our Moodle site will be down for maintenance and unavailable for the majority of the day (24hrs max) starting in the early AM hours Thursday. Notifications will be sent out when the upgrade is complete. Instructors can continue building Fall courses as usual before and after the upgrade!

Learning about Moodle

Thankfully the Moodle 4.1 upgrade does not change how you generally navigate around and use Moodle (most of the updates are on the back end), so please refer to our existing resources
