Shop Small\Shop Local

November 30

This year celebrates the 15th year of this Smal Business Saturday of Supporting Small Business movement.

Remember, shop local whenever possible. When you hand a dollar to a local merchant, you are creating more jobs and spending in our local economy because independent businesses employ more people per dollar of revenue earned than large online stores. Local businesses are also consumers themselves, and they are also consumers themselves and they utilize that dollar on other local services like accountants, attorneys, wholesalers, farms, construction companies, etc. thus expanding opportunities for other local entrepreneurs to grow. The growth of the business sector increases the tax base for the local economy thus decreasing the need for increases in local taxes while providing more services. Basically, buying local helps to grow the economy at a faster and more sustainable rate. So, SHOP LOCAL this season.

Dr. Mariel Buqué Enlightens Community About Intergenerational Trauma

2024FASDrBuqueTalk2024 image

For All Seasons recently hosted a free community lecture at Chesapeake College by internationally acclaimed author Dr. Mariel Buqué, a first-generation Black Dominican psychologist and trailblazer in addressing intergenerational trauma, particularly within communities of color. Dr. Buqué has written "Break the Cycle: A Guide to Healing Intergenerational Trauma," a comprehensive resource offering practical tools for transforming intergenerational pain into healing and abundance. For All Seasons is the trauma center for the Eastern Shore. One hundred percent of the agency’s service providers are trauma-certified. For All Seasons prioritizes the support and education of the community when it comes to topics around trauma.

Intergenerational trauma is the transmission of trauma or its legacy, in the form of psychological pain from the generation experiencing the trauma to subsequent generations. Intergenerational trauma can be passed down from ancestors who may have suffered from unhealthy family dynamics, experienced adverse childhood experiences growing up, or survived historical disasters or traumas. This may include personal trauma, such as child or domestic abuse, trauma experienced by a specific cultural, racial, or ethnic group, as well as trauma from major events like wars, slavery, the Holocaust, and colonial violence against Native Americans. This multilevel emotional injury from intergenerational trauma can impact the mind, body, and spirit, leaving the next generation susceptible to anxiety, depression, hypervigilance, and other emotional and mental health concerns.

Shop Local / Shop Small

This year celebrates the 15th year of this Smal Business Saturday of

Supporting Small Business movement.

Remember, shop local whenever possible. When you hand a dollar to a local merchant, you are creating more jobs and spending in our local economy because independent businesses employ more people per dollar of revenue earned than large online stores. Local businesses are also consumers themselves, and they are also consumers themselves, and they utilize that dollar on other local services like accountants, attorneys, wholesalers, farms, construction companies, etc. thus expanding opportunities for other local entrepreneurs to grow. The growth of the business sector increases the tax base for the local economy thus decreasing the need for increases in local taxes while providing more services. Basically, buying local helps to grow the economy at a faster and more sustainable rate. So, SHOP LOCAL this season.

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Since then, it has grown into a year-round global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. As a grass root, nonprofit breast cancer survivor support organization, we proudly say that ALL the funding we receive will remain in our community. Out of every dollar raised, $.72 goes back into WSW programs and services for our breast cancer survivors. It is only through loyal community partnerships that we are able to provide our unique services free to breast cancer survivors and their families while fulfilling our mission of awareness, education, and support to all those affected by breast cancer. WSW is not affiliated with any national organization and does not receive any funding. We count on donations, sponsorships, grants, and fundraisers to raise the needed funds. Speakers Bureau Training

Join the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education's Speakers Bureau!

Want to inspire the next generation? Attend our upcoming training session for the 2024-2025 Speakers Bureau and learn how you can make a difference in Maryland classrooms.

As a volunteer with MBRT’s Speakers Bureau, you have the unique opportunity to bring the real world into the classroom. Imagine the impact your personal story, your challenges, and your career journey can have on a young person at a critical point in their life. By sharing your experiences, you’re doing more than presenting information—you’re showing students what’s possible, sparking new interests, and helping them see their potential.

The difference you’ll make is powerful:

Inspire Career Exploration: Many students are unsure of their next steps. Your story could be the key that unlocks a future in business, technology, healthcare, or beyond.

Build Essential Skills: Through real-world examples, you'll equip students with the knowledge they need to set goals, tackle challenges, and build skills for life beyond school.

Strengthen Community Connections: Your presence in the classroom reinforces a bridge between education and the business world, showing students that their community supports them.

By volunteering just a few hours of your time, you can help shape the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators in Maryland.

Sign up, attend training, and set your goal to visit classrooms! Visit mbrt.org for more information. Together, let’s prepare students for tomorrow! #MBRT #VolunteerMD

The program is being offered both in-person and/or virtual at Dorchester Chamber of Commerce
