Volunteer of the month
Judy Edwards
“The only thing that you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library.”
— Albert Einstein
Meet our Volunteer of the Month: Judy Edwards

I’ve always loved books. So the opening of the new Lewes Public Library in 2016 presented me with the perfect volunteer opportunity. That summer, I joined the Friends of the Library and began working in the new Friends Shop. The Friends supports the library through various activities, such as used book sales, and provides 100% of the funding for all new books added to the library collection.

In 2018, I was invited to serve on the Library Book Selection Committee. This committee, together with various staff members, is primarily responsible for the selection of books for the Adult Fiction and Non-Fiction book collections. Members review standard sources, such as library and trade journals, and meet monthly to discuss titles and make recommendations for purchase.

From beginning to end, it is a special honor to be involved in both raising the funds to purchase new books and then researching and recommending the actual purchases. It is even more rewarding to work with fellow volunteers who share the values, interests, and the commitment to make our library a source of pride for our community.
