Raising Godly Leaders

Our vision is to raise Christian leaders that make a meaningful difference in their community and country to the glory of God. Child sponsorship is the keystone of our ministry here in Uganda and we are thankful to God for the Children He has entrusted to us. While the school year is just ending in the U.S., we ask for your prayers for our children as they return to school for their second term at the beginning of June. I am thankful for all the sponsors who give directly for one of these children and for those who prayerfully and financially support the ministry in all that we do.

Along with the children’s home and the clinic, the Genesis Nursery/Primary School is a very important part of our ministry efforts to grow Christian leaders. Most of our primary-aged children attend Genesis. The school is doing a great job of setting a firm academic and spiritual foundation for the children. Please pray for God to continue to bless these efforts to impact the lives of these young ones.

Teacher Alex - geography class

I am thankful to God for the many lives that have been transformed by growing up through sponsorship and giving their lives to the Lord. We have doctors, nurses and other medical workers, teachers, pastors, government workers, social workers, and many in construction trades, hospitality and more. Some are now filling critical roles in the ministry.  Many are now husbands and wives, moms and dads who have been lifted out of the cycle of poverty and are raising their children to know Jesus. The children that come out of the ministry often lead others to Christ, including family members. These graduates are making a difference everywhere, and it brings joy to my heart to see the faithfulness of the Lord in their lives.

On May 6th, our missionary, Laura Jones, had her Introduction ceremony with her fiancé, Godfrey. In Ugandan culture an Introduction ceremony is similar to an engagement party where the groom- to-be seeks to be accepted as a son-in-law. It is an all-day production including games, gifts, food and beautiful dresses that are changed throughout the day to ready the bride and her maids! The traditional formal Ugandan dress is called a Gomez. Games include “who is the bride- to-be?” with Godfrey’s family looking to identify her from the group of young ladies. Then, “where is the groom?” requires the future bride and her maids to find the groom, usually hiding behind his family.  A lei is then placed on his head to show he is the one. The young man also presents gifts to the family of his bride to be and, of course, there is cake. Mmmm!

Calling all Prayer Warriors

Please pray:

*for a strong growing season. It is often too dry or flooding. With continuing food shortages, a good season is critical.

* for all the kids as they return to school for second term, particularly those in secondary boarding schools that they may remain strong in their faith, seek out good churches and attend the school’s Scripture Union groups, as well as choose godly friends and influences.

* for Genesis School as it continues to build a strong Christian and academic foundation for the children we serve.

* for Elizabeth to have a safe delivery with her and James’ first child and for God’s grace for a healthy baby.

* for God’s many blessings on Godfrey and Laura as they begin their new life together.

* for wisdom in our stewardship of ministry funds as economic challenges continue.

* for our staff to remain healthy. Particularly lift up Christine, our sponsorship coordinator, as she recovers from a back injury.

* for our sponsored children to grow in their faith in Jesus and for God to continue to draw to Himself the hearts of those who have not yet trusted Him as their Savior. Pray also as we minister to their families that they might also come to know and believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

* for staffing needs for the ministry, that God would bring us people who are sold out to Jesus and have a heart for the mission on which He has put us.

* for our recent sponsorship graduates as they seek meaningful employment and that they will continue to grow in their faith and become godly influencers in their family and community.

 Funding Needs

>> High School fund to help our students whose fees have risen. $50/student.

>> Genesis School stoves $4,500 still needed.

>> Giving is generally lower in the summer months and is further complicated by school fees that come due in May and August, prior to the beginning of the terms. May has been particularly tight this year. If you have flexibility, please consider modifying the timing of your giving to help us over these tight months.

Laura had around 450 people there to enjoy the day with her. Laura’s mother could not make it from the U.S., so I was chosen to sit in for her to receive the family (I just sit mostly). Pastor Charles was chosen by Laura to represent her father. The boys and girls of the children’s home represented brothers and sisters. On June 24th, Laura and Godfrey will be married and her real mother will be joining the celebration! Please pray for Laura and Godfrey as they marry and continue to serve the Lord.

On another note, some of you know that Elizabeth, our other missionary of five years, was married a few years ago to James, our Bible teacher at Genesis Nursery/Primary School, and they are now expecting their first child in early June. She is here in Uganda and planning to give birth in a well-regarded hospital in Kampala that they both thoroughly checked out! We congratulate them as well.

May the Lord bless you always and return to you a hundred-fold of all you give to this ministry – in prayer and financially.

We love you all,

Katherine
