10am Sunday Service: A Covenant With Mystery

Nature provides us with awe and so does Unitarian Universalism. Nature exudes calm and quiet to help us temper all those negative voices in our head and so does Unitarian Universalism. Nature invites us into a covenant with mystery and so does Unitarian Universalism.

Speaker: Rev. James Galasinski

Masking in the First Universalist church building is now optional, please respect any distancing requests by fellow attendees. A mask-required section of the sanctuary is designated for those preferring to stay masked.

Upcoming Events &
Additional Announcements

Tuesday, August 15 | Drop-In Discussion: One Nation, Indivisible?

As happened before the Civil War, a number of state governments are defying federal authority. Some advocate or predict a breakup of the Federal Union. Should we worry? Phil Ebersole will lead a discussion. Drop-in Discussions meet via Zoom on Tuesday nights from 6:30-7:30pm. Look on the First Universalist homepage for details and a link, or click the Zoom meeting link in this blurb title!

Sunday, August 20 | Share-The-Plate: St Joseph’s House of Hospitality

Next Sunday our share-the-plate recipient will be St. Joseph’s House of Hospitality, a Rochester, NY, Catholic Worker Community established in 1941. They provide shelter for the homeless and help individuals transition from unstable living situations to stabler, healthier environments.

Summer MOCHA Update!

Although MOCHA takes a break during the summer months, we still would like to offer the opportunity for refreshments and conversation after services. Here’s the plan: We will have cold beverages and some small treats available to be put out. There will NOT be coffee. If you sign up, before the service, you will need make up a pitcher of ice tea or lemonade and put it and a pitcher of water in the fridge. There would be a treat of some sort to put out, along with napkins. After refreshments, you will need to clean up. There is a signup sheet for each summer Sunday on the refreshment table. If you would be willing, please sign up to help!

Joys & Sorrows

Please send your Joys and Sorrows to be read at our Sunday Worship service to JoysandSorrows@uuroc.org.

A sorrow from Connie Valk: The Unitarian Universalist Church in Plano, Texas was firebombed in June due to their support for LGBTQ+ people.

A joy from the Gilberts: Joyce and Dick Gilbert celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary Saturday, August 12. The first 62 are the hardest!

Note: When you email a joy or sorrow to us, you are giving us permission to read it aloud at our Sunday service and possibly publish it in this weekly email. Thank you!
