Ready, Set, Intern!

PESA's high school summer internship concludes and students reflect on their experience

For the third summer in a row, PESA has mentored high school students by offering them the opportunity to acquire workplace skills while nurturing their personal growth.

PESA is proud to announce the completion of their 2023 Summer High School Internship program. Over 15 students from six different high schools across Los Angeles County participated in financial literacy workshops, obtained resume-building assistance, and had the opportunity to learn interview skills.

PESA’s internship program empowers students to gain a headstart in professional growth during the summer before they return to school in the fall. Shivm, from Chatsworth Charter High School, shares, “Although this internship is a 5-week program, I gained insight on what to expect at a workplace setting and was exposed to the basic duties of what a future career in the industry would demand.”

When asked what projects were most noteworthy, Journey, from SOAR High School, talked about the mock interviews workshop. “This process was one of the hardest things I have had to do because the preparation behind the interviews includes creating an in-depth resume and researching the job itself. Overall, it was a good opportunity to practice my interview skills and receive valuable feedback that can transfer to future career prospects.” Additionally, Journey mentions, “This internship is vital for me because several workshops, like money management and resume building, are not normally taught to us in high school.”

Chloe, from Chatsworth Charter High School, states, “I would recommend this summer program to other students because the information is key for individual success” while Anastasia, from John Burroughs High School says she “Really enjoyed everything this internship had to offer, specifically matching us up with potential careers because it gave me a broader perspective of what opportunities are available.”

PESA’s internship becomes more than a stepping stone but a value of our mission – a mission woven in mentorship and education. With this summer cohort, one can definitely say that PESA is doing its job in educating our next generation of leaders, regardless of what profession they choose to pursue.
