A Message from the President


Dear Colleagues,


It was amazing to see so many of you at the AAVN’s 22nd Annual Clinical Nutrition and Research Symposium last month. I am grateful to all who took the time to travel to Austin and to those who signed on to the livestream. For those of you who were unable to attend, links to recordings are available to all members on our website.  


Thank you to our Education Committee, led by Dr. Megan Sprinkle, for their efforts to plan the hybrid event this year.

AAVN Recognizes Three New Life Members 

Congratulations to 

Joseph Bartges, DVM, PhD, DACVIM (Internal Medicine, Nutrition)

Julie Churchill, DVM, PhD, DACVM (Nutrition)

Claudia Kirk, DVM, PhD, DACVIM (Internal Medicine, Nutrition)

A Life Member  is defined as someone who who has been a dues paying member of the AAVN for at least 20 years and has made significant contributions to the field of veterinary nutrition or the American Academy of Veterinary Nutrition (AAVN). Life members must be approved by the Executive Board.


Individuals can apply to become a life member by submitting an application to the Executive Board. In addition, members can nominate another member to be recognized with Life membership by completing the process described in the application. The Executive Board may also nominate Life members.

The AAVN's 2022 Clinical Nutrition and Research Symposium was held at the Convention Center in Austin, Texas on Tuesday, June 21st and Wednesday, June 22nd.  The event featured a fantastic lineup of speakers, including

Dr. Yuki Okada Honored with 2022 Waltham Award



Drs. Sarah Dodd and Andronie Verbrugghe Named First Recipients of the Richard R. Weiss Memorial Student Research Award


The award prize includes $500 for Dr. Dodd. In addition, $2000 is designated for Dr. Verbrugghe, to promote future student research projects.
