Become a CARE Team Member - Help Save The Life Of Someone In Cumberland County

Did you know that every year in Cumberland County over 150 of our friends, children and neighbors are affected by Sudden Cardiac Arrest? Every minute that a person is in cardiac arrest their likelihood of survival drops 7-10%. Immediate bystander intervention with an AED is required to meaningfully save lives. To change these startling statistics Cumberland County is proud to support a new initiative called the 4-Minute City. The Peyton Walker Foundation, located in Camp Hill, and the Emergency Health Services Federation are partnering with Avive Solutions’ new cutting-edge technology to place intelligent AEDs throughout the community with the goal of providing cardiac arrest victims access to lifesaving help within 4 minutes of 911 calls. We are the third location in the country to implement this program. This project will revolutionize Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) care in Cumberland County. Most importantly, this program is working with the citizens of Cumberland County to create a culture of saving lives from cardiac arrest through free training and educational resources so everyone is prepared to save a life. And last, we are working on deploying approximately 300 Avive AEDs in Cumberland County and are looking to our Cumberland County citizens to join the CARE Team (Cardiac Arrest Rapid Engagement) by hosting an AED free of charge! CARE Team members will be trained on how to perform high quality hands-only CPR and how to use an AED.  You can help save the life of someone in Cumberland County.

Vision Bowl - Exercising Low Vision Awareness

Vision Resources of Central Pennsylvania (VROCP) is inviting the public to join this non-profit organization for its annual, Vision Bowl, low vision awareness event. While participating, bowlers share the opportunity to learn more about the major diseases that lead to vision loss, gain an understanding about the vital programs and services offered by VROCP, and, most importantly, compete for local bowling bragging rights. This competition places bowlers in the shoes of a visually impaired individual. Following a friendly warm-up game, along with some food, refreshments and a little humorous taunting between teams, the real challenge of the competition begins. During the second game bowlers are required to wear one-of-four special lightweight eyeglasses that replicate what a person with Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, Age Related Macular Degeneration, and Cataracts see. It is this test of alley skills that determines the individual and team trophy winners. Competitors must bowl in teams of four and the $200 entry fee, per team, includes the two games, shoe rental, a t-shirt, food and soft drinks. A portion of each fee supports the mission of VROCP. The event welcomes business or individual sponsorships and all interested parties are asked to please contact Cheryl Cuddy at, ccuddy@vrocp.org or call VROCP at 717-238-2531 to learn more. Volunteer with the Fund for Women & Girls

The Fund for Women & Girls was created in 2000 to broaden the awareness of, and respond to, issues affecting women and girls through the power of collective philanthropy. Women and girls around the world are inordinately represented among the poor, uneducated, and abused. Without a focused effort to combat the issues that face them, they will remain among the underserved. The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC's) vision is of a community where they are afforded the right to live in safety, meet their basic needs for living, have the opportunities to pursue their dreams, and are inspired to experience the value of philanthropy. Volunteer opportunities are available on the Marketing & Events and Advisory Committees. To apply contact philanthropy@tfec.org.
