Mark 5:21-43

Who do we seek out when we desire healing? Do you think you would lose faith if you were the woman who has hemorrhaging for 12 years? Why do you think Jesus told the parents of the young girl to tell no one of her healing?

Blessings, Pastor Ann.

Annual Meeting: January 28th 10:30am Parish Hall

  • Changes to the Constitution... In preparation for the Annual Meeting, please take time to review the proposed changes to the constitution. We believe that might be the most time-consuming part of the meeting if we aren't prepared to discuss it beforehand.

  • Pledge Cards Needed... Please drop off to the office or email to finances@newdaylutheran.org Steve will update the numbers on the annual report if it has changed between now and the meeting.

Feb 4th New Day Fellowship... We will have breakfast out on Feb. 4th as St. Luke's will need the parish hall for their annual meeting. We will update you on the place. We will announce the plan Sunday at the annual meeting.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day & Black History Month

On Friday, January 19, I attended the Martin Luther King, Jr. Banquet that was sponsored by the Idaho Falls African American Alliance where the theme was "Owning Our Past, Creating Our Future." There were many people from New Day present, including Council Vice President Cathy Arvidson. Dr. Sydney Freeman, Jr., a professor at the University of Idaho in Moscow, along with many other credentials, was the keynote speaker. He titled his presentation, "The Beloved Community, Idaho Falls Edition." He shared the importance of intentionality and accountability in creating a "Beloved Community." He shared some actions that we can take in becoming a "Beloved Community" as we seek to be anti-racist: +Fund initiatives that will create partnership +Don't assume certain individuals are willing or able to help educate others +Invest in cultural training and awareness +Stay informed about issues impacting the Black community, even if those issues don't appear to impact you +Listen, then act! +Be curious. +Communicate the history of Blacks in our community. +Do things that support the Black community... show your commitment by investing your time and your money. +Remember, you are responsible for what you say and do as well as what you don't say and do.  +Take what you learn and apply it.  +Hold one another accountable.

As an open and affirming congregation, and with the designation of Reconciling in Christ (RIC), we have made commitments to love others in ways that many people are not willing to do. This past summer, we added to our RIC Welcome statement, making sure that we include our commitment to work on being anti-racist. With that in mind, and with Black History Month coming up, I want us to be more aware of things we might do as we seek to love as God loves. Including the suggestions made by Dr. Freeman above, what are other things you can do to become more anti-racist? How can you be more loving toward your neighbors of color? How might God be calling you, and us, to live and love as God does?

I'll be sharing resources as we head into Black History Month... but let's not forget... we are called to love every single day!

Pastor Ann

If you received our two messages on Sunday, please make sure to save the number in your contacts so you don't miss any future messages. If you didn't receive a text and would like to sign up, simply send us an email at church@newdaylutheran.org and we will add you to the list.
