Aboriginal Arts and Culture Leadership Grant opening soon for one intake in 2024 |
SaskCulture's Aboriginal Arts and Culture Leadership (AACL) Grant will be open for applications on February 19, with a deadline on April 15. This will be the only round of funding for this grant program in 2024.
The AACL grant supports the sharing of cultural skills and knowledge to young people through participatory cultural activity with First Nations or Métis arts and culture leaders. If there are any questions regarding the AACL grant, please contact Outreach Consultant Shelley Fayant at sfayant@saskculture.ca.

SaskCulture is pleased to offer an introduction to the Aboriginal Friendship Centres of Saskatchewan’s (AFCS) Cultural Humility Training Course.
On February 26 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., this webinar will provide participants with a sneak peek into the professional development opportunity being offered by AFCS for individuals, groups, and businesses that want to explore our ties to these lands, the commonalities in our journeys, the Indigenous groups in our province, and how that can be beneficial to our community as a whole. In 2023, Culture Days witnessed an incredible turnout. Over 3,000 events and activities brought together a record-breaking audience of 4.4 million participants across Canada! Culture Days was a huge success in Saskatchewan, bringing together over 100,000 people from across the province to participate in more than 295 arts, culture, and heritage activities.
SaskCulture supported 31 Culture Days community hubs to offer its communities arts, culture, and heritage experiences. Approximately 20 hubs recognized the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as part of their events and activities. A big thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of Culture Days in 2023. Upcoming event: SaskCulture's Journey Towards Truth & Reconciliation | This Friday, February 9, Reconciliation Saskatoon is hosting the event SaskCulture's Journey Towards Truth & Reconciliation, aimed at businesses and organizations seeking insights and a community of learning to inspire their own journeys. SaskCulture CEO Dean Kush and Supervisor, Partnerships and Inclusion Damon Badger Heit will share stories and key teachings gained along the journey to fostering an equitable, diverse and inclusive work culture. Kairos Blanket Exercise (Parkland Valley Sport, Culture & Recreation District)
The KAIROS Blanket Exercise is a workshop that explores the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. Blankets arranged on the floor represent the land and participants are invited to step into the roles of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.

Blanket Exercise (Rivers West District for Sport, Culture & Recreation)
The Blanket Exercise is based on using Indigenous methodologies and the goal is to build understanding about our shared history as Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada by walking through pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization and resistance. By engaging on an emotional and intellectual level, the Blanket Exercise effectively educates and increases empathy.
