Sen. Capito joins MU President Smith
for RCBI tour, workforce roundtable

U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito and Marshall President Brad Smith met with owners and employees of West Virginia manufacturing operations last week to learn more about how they benefit from the workforce development programs and technical assistance available at the Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI).
During a roundtable at RCBI Huntington, Capito and Smith engaged with owners and employees of Brinker Machine of Mason County, Cyclops Industries of Kanawha County and Liberty Hill Machine of Cabell County to learn specifically how Apprenticeship Works, RCBI’s national advanced manufacturing apprentice partnership, assists companies in developing the skilled workforce they need while providing pathways for apprentices to earn industry-recognized credentials and college degrees.

RCBI and LEI will present two free workshops for those in the manufacturing industry. Designing the Future Remotely: A Lean Product Development Immersive Learning Experience, a virtual live event, will run May 9-13 from 8-11 a.m. daily. Aligning and Executing on Your Company Objectives: The Hoshin Kanri Method will run June 8-9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at RCBI Huntington. W.Va. adds hundreds of manufacturing jobs
The Mountain State added 300 manufacturing jobs in March, according to the latest numbers from WorkForce West Virginia. The strong economic news comes on the heels of recent annoucements by several manufacturers – including Nucor, GreenPower Motor Company, Omnis Building Technologies and others – that they will expand operations or open new facilities in southern West Virginia, creating more than 1,500 initial jobs.

Manufacturing & Energy Summit is May 2-3

The West Virginia Manufacturers Association will host the Manufacturing Energy Growth Summit, formerly the Marcellus and Manufacturing Development Conference, May 2-3 at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling. This annual event brings together manufacturing and energy leaders, state and local officials, economic development professionals, and friends of industry and energy from West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Cyclops wins family-owned business award
Cyclops Industries of South Charleston has been named West Virginia Family-Owned Small Business of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The long-time RCBI client and manufacturer of industrial sight glasses, which are sold around the world, will be honored May 6 in Fairmont along with the other 2022 state small business award winners.

Limited seats remain in RCBI maker camps
RCBI's in-person 3D printing and maker camps in June and July are filling up fast. The STEM-focused events will take place in Huntington, South Charleston and Bridgeport and will engage students in each step of the manufacturing process as they design and produce their very own creations. Inventors gather for meeting of the minds
More than 65 inventors and service providers from across the state participated April 21 in the inaugural West Virginia Inventors Society gathering in South Charleston. The next meeting is scheduled for June 16. To better serve the needs of inventors, we ask anyone interested in the Society to complete our brief survey.
