ARTICLE OF THE MONTH: "Rethinking Transportation and Logistics Leadership in an Age of Digital Transformation" by Martina Claudia Fohr
For many, the current pandemic has rapidly accelerated digital transformation. We’ve seen brick-and-mortar retailers quickly set up ecommerce capabilities, restaurants shift to delivery-only models and healthcare providers offering virtual appointments. The current environment highlights the changes already in motion within transportation and logistics — and how the old modes of leadership and organizational culture will need to change in this increasingly digital-first world.
The Landscape
According to Hans-Jörg Bertschi, executive chairman of Bertschi AG, platforms will dominate the future of the logistics industry, accounting for at least 50 percent of volume within five to 10 years versus just five to 10 percent today.
Tailgate Talk: 5 Ways to Motivate Employees to Work Safely
Management can establish all the safety policies and procedures in the world, but when it comes right down to it, maintaining safety and health in any workplace depends on the workers themselves. When we fail to recognize and promote the benefit of safety, chances are pretty good that it's going to show up on the accident and injury records. This ultimately increases our premium for Workers' Compensation coverage, adds to the cost of repairing and maintaining equipment, and may severely impact the lives of employees and their families.
So it is more than just important to implement the best techniques for motivating your people to work safety; it is absolutely critical. Some of the most effective techniques involve communication. Simply put, you need to establish or build employee awareness of safety in the workplace and out on the job.
