When weather conditions make it necessary to close school, the cancellation or snow schedule will be announced by local media. Those who subscribe to our texting service will be notified via text of any cancellations or early dismissals. We will try to make Cancellation announcements as early as possible, but sometimes information changes quickly and closures can be at the last minute. Thanks for your patience in advance if this does occur.
To address those winter days in which travel conditions are unsafe during normal arrival or dismissal times, we have devised a “late start” schedule in addition to our “early out” schedule.
Should we be inclined to issue a “Late Start” notification via texting service or media broadcast, this is what it means:
9:30-10:00 Students arrive and go directly to the classroom.
10:00 Tardy deadline. School contact needs to be made prior to this time for absences.
The remainder of the day will be a modified schedule of classes. Lunch and Recess times will remain the same. There will be no Library, Band, or Computer classes on late start days due to scheduling conflicts.
Dismissal times and procedures will remain the same as a normal day for a “late start” schedule. There will normally be After School Care on “late start” days.
Due to extreme weather after the start of school, it may be necessary to dismiss school and After Care early. Television, our Social Media, our texting service and our Website will announce the closing time. An email will be sent to all parents and notification will be sent via text to all subscribed to the school texting service as well as postings to the website and school social media sites. Telephoning the school jams the telephone lines and is to be avoided. Tune to the TV stations, and check phones/computers frequently. On early dismissal days due to inclement weather, the children are dismissed to the big flat for pick-up. The kindergarten is held with a teacher at the main entrance. Students not picked up 20 minutes after dismissal will report to the school office.
On extreme weather dismissal days there is NO After School Care. If inclement weather is forecasted, parents should monitor St. Peter Social Media pages as well as local TV stations during the day, as After School Care may need to be dismissed early if the weather hits after 3:05 pm.
