Central Deanery Picnic -
Register by this Thursday (click below)
|
NEXT SATURDAY, JULY 23
NOON - 4:00 PM
The Deanery will provide hotdogs, hamburgers, condiments, chips, lemonade, and slushies. We encourage those who are able to bring a side dish or dessert, outdoor chairs, lawn games, and individual coolers with your own beverages of choice.
Because we anticipate the event day being hot and sunny, we will have an outdoor event tent for shade with tables for seating. We will have an inflatable water slide for children of all ages. A slushie machine will also be available to help all stay cool in a fun way.
There will also be seating in the church for those who would like to stay cool. We will be serving food and drinks indoors so dishes can stay at a proper temperature.
Our hope for this event is that as many Episcopalians as possible from across the deanery might gather to connect, so please plan to join us. To that end, we ask that interested participants register to join so we can plan accordingly. RSVP via the link below.
PLEASE REGISTER ON-LINE BY THURSDAY, JULY 21, 2022

THE FIRST ORDERS OF MINISTRY IN THE CHURCH
From Old Testament times in history, the first order of ministers in the church were the Levites. This tribe of the Israelites were responsible for organizing the Tent of Worship, protecting the Ark of the Covenant, and leading the sacrificial worship for all of Israel.
This order of ministry continues to this day in all Christian traditions where people serve at the Altar as Acolytes, Servers, Lectors, Deacons, Priests, and Bishops. This also includes those who serve as members of the Altar Guild, who prepare the elements, the altar and the paraments for each church service. These are truly “holy” orders of people answering the call to serve Christ and the church. Other than the ordained order of Deacons, Priests and Bishops, this ministry is carried out by Lay ministers who volunteer to serve in roles that sustain our liturgy and worship at every church service.
I am so very grateful to all who have made the choice to serve in these roles. Lay ministry is the largest and probably the most significant of ministries in the church as we know it. Deacons, Priests and Bishops are called to very specific ministries and are unable to carry out the majority of the work that is done in any parish through out any diocese. There is always a need for ministry volunteers for these roles. Whether young or older, each of the roles to read and serve at the altar is open to those who desire to live into this ministry. Children eight and older (with some exceptions) can serve as acolytes. Youngsters and adults are also encouraged to serve as readers (lectors) to read the various scriptures and lead prayers. Those eighteen years of age and older can serve at the Altar and assist as Eucharistic Ministers serving the bread and wine. Adults can also serve as Eucharistic Visitors who carry the communion from the Eucharist to those who are shut-ins at home, in hospitals and at other places unable to attend church.
These ministries require coordination and preparation. Many thanks to Gabe Conn who leads our Altar Guild, Diane Gerlach who schedules our lectors and servers and to John Biggs who schedules our Ushers. If you are interested in participating in any of these important Lay Ministries, please get in touch with these coordinators.
Resurrection and our community are so blessed to have these ministries with people who truly care to serve. Again, many, many thanks,
Fr. David +
