Puente Hills Preserve News, January 2024

Happy New Year! We hope it's been off to a great start.

Join our Open House. Click here to RSVP

Join us on the evening of Wednesday, January 24, for an Open House to learn about ways we can safeguard the long-term future of Turnbull Canyon, Hacienda Hills, Sycamore Canyon, Hellman Park, Arroyo Pescadero and Powder Canyon.

Although hiking, biking and horseback riding are year-round activities in Southern California, many visitors still have a preference on what time of the year is best for their pleasant stroll or strenuous hill climb.

If you had to choose, what's your favorite season for enjoying the trails?
Winter is the winner!
Spring for its bloom!
Summer is always more fun!
Fall for its colors!

Answer to last month’s newsletter poll - We asked Which trailheads have you seen the festive shrub toyon, also known as Christmas Berry? Sycamore Canyon 20.5%, Hellman Park 17.6 %, Arroyo Pescadero 17.6 %, Turnbull Canyon 14.7%, Hacienda HIls 14.7%, Powder Canyon 14.7%

30 Year Anniversary: In 1994, the Habitat Authority was created as a condition of approval for the operation of the Puente Hills Landfill. We started with an idea and willingness from surrounding communities to preserve what was left of the hills for generations to come. Here we are 30 years later still serving the local communities having preserved over 3,880 acres, restored over 300 acres to native habitat, created a trails system that provides 23 miles of public access, and conducted environmental outreach for over 33,000 people. Stay tuned for more information throughout the year highlighting milestones and achievements and about our anniversary celebration yet to be planned.

The Habitat Authority is a local government agency, and is qualified to accept tax-deductible charitable donations including monetary and real property. Donations such as these contribute to the purpose of the agency and provide tax benefits for the giver.
