Karlee Vardas wins the 74th WSCGA State Amateur Championship

The final round of the WSCGA State Amateur Championship at Ft Jackson Golf Club on the Old Hickory Course was exciting to say the least. Going into the final round the title was within the grasps of numerous players all the way til the last putt dropped on the 18th hole. Coming down the stretch two players edged out the rest of the field and kept it exciting until the last putt dropped. Karlee Vardas went into the 17th hole with a 3 shot lead, but Sophia Burnett was not giving up. Burnett birdied seventeen and Vardas made par to retain a two shot lead going into the last hole. The 18th hole is a 354 yard par 4 slight uphill dogleg left. Both players hit perfect drives down the center of the fairway with great looks at sticking it tight. Vardas flared it a bit allowing the ball to catch the green side bunker. Burnett placed it nicely on the green giving herself a great look at making birdie. Vardas caught her bunker shot heavy and left it in the bunker to have to hit again and get on the green in 4 with a 15 footer for bogey. Burnett lipped out her birdie putt to make par while Vardas drained her 15 footer for bogey to capture the 2022 WSCGA State Amateur Championship by one shot. Vardas posted a one under par score of 71 to come from behind to win with a three day total of 215. Between the two players they carded 16 birdies over the three day event.
Brown takes State Division Title
Lea Anne Brown from Bulls Bay Club shot a one over par on the back nine for a final day posting 79 and three day total 230 to secure the State Division Championship. Edging out defending champion Kerry Rutan by six shots and past champion Pam Prescott by 8 shots.
Louise Givens takes
Super Senior State Division Title
Louise Givens from Debordieu Club won the Super Senior Division in record fashion by 39 shots. Givens was consistent all three day firing 81-82-84= 247. Runner Up in the Super Senior Division was Lynn Holmes from the Mid Carolina Club.
Skenadore secures Mytrice Riccoboni Net Champion Title
Mytrice Riccoboni initiated the first meeting of women from clubs around South Carolina. Her intention was not to start a state association but to create a small round robin organization so more of the women golfers at nearby clubs could become better acquainted. There was such an enthusiastic response that it was decided a state organization was needed and could function actively and successfully benefitting all concerned. We remember Mytrice and our humble beginnings with a Net Champion in the State Amateur. This years winner was Skye Two Hawks Skenadore from Mt. Vintage Plantation and Golf Club. Skenadore's three day net total was a three under par 213.
