Best Small Town to Visit in the U.S. - TravelAwaits (2023)
Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo, Abilene KS: Experience the Wild West
by Midwest Wanderer
Last summer we visited Old Abilene Town in Abilene, Kansas, as part of a media event. That evening, our hosts treated us to a cattle drive featuring Texas Longhorn cattle, a ride on the Abilene and Smoky Valley Railroad, and a museum tour. In the museum we learned about Wild Bill Hickok’s time in Abilene. So, we were excited when we were also invited to attend the Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo, where we could see real cowboys and cowgirls in competitive action.

The Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo is an annual event, named multiple times as one of the top five professional outdoor rodeos in America. What was the rodeo like?

30 Best Things to Do in Kansas
by Dine Stay Discover
Dwight D. Eisenhower Library and Museum in Abilene, Kansas, is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history, politics, or the life of one of America’s greatest presidents.

As I walked through the museum, I was transported back in time to the early 1900s, where I learned about Eisenhower’s life, military career, and presidency.

The museum is a beautiful tribute to a great man, and I was impressed by how efficiently it was designed to provide maximum information in the space provided.

From the original displays to the short films presented, there was so much to take in, and I had a blast exploring everything the museum had to offer.
Dreaming big: K-State grad brings vision for world's largest belt buckle to live in Abilene, Kansas
by K-State Alumni Association
At dinner parties, Julie Roller Weeks ’06 loves to ask questions that get people talking.

One of her favorite go-to conversation starters is, “If you could build the world’s largest (fill in the blank), what would it be?”

However, as much as she loved hearing other people’s responses to that particular prompt, she never felt like she had a good answer herself.

That is, until she started on a quest to create the world’s largest belt buckle in Abilene, Kansas, where she serves as director of the local Convention and Visitors Bureau. The buckle has become an attention-grabbing, headline-producing, social media star, as well as a symbol of Abilene’s rich cowboy heritage and small-town pride.
