Meet Our Board

Thank you, Andra & Jean for your Board service!

A huge thank you to outgoing Board Member, Andra Henning. We send our warm wishes to Andra and her family as they move back to Michigan. Since joining the RTMC Board in 2019, Andra has made a huge impact on our organization. We have greatly benefitted from her occupational therapy expertise, which has helped us to better serve our homeowner clients. Andra also showed great leadership as an RTMC House Captain for several years and she actively engaged her Adventist HealthCare coworkers in our mission and numerous National Rebuilding Days. Best of luck, Andra, we will miss you!

Immense gratitude to outgoing Board Member, Jean Sperling. Jean has been involved with Rebuilding Together for more than three decades and has served for the past six years as an RTMC Board Member. Jean is a fierce advocate for affordable housing and a true champion for the homeowners we serve. We love her candid, can-do attitude, and the passion she has for our mission. We have greatly benefitted from Jean’s wisdom and dedication and, while her board term has ended, we look forward to Jean’s continued engagement in our mission. Thank you, Jean, for your many contributions!

New Partnership with The City of Gaithersburg

RTMC Board Member Francene Walker, Executive Director Maury Peterson, and RTMC Vice President Lance Wolin attended the recent Gaithersburg City Council meeting where Mayor Jud Ashman and the Gaithersburg City Council unanimously approved a grant for $133,489 that will allow RTMC to start a new Home Repair Program to help City of Gaithersburg residents who early 80% or less of Area Median Income. We are grateful and look forward to working with the City of Gaithersburg Government Department of Community, Neighborhood and Housing Services to help more neighbors in need. If you know an income-qualifying City of Gaithersburg homeowner in need of critical repairs, please ask them to call our office at 301-947-9400.

Aging in Place with Accessibility Modifications

RTMC homeowner clients Mrs. and Mrs. S. are an elderly couple who have lived in their Gaithersburg home since it was built in 1985. Mr. S. was diagnosed with dementia in November 2022, and he is often bedbound, so the couple needed our help to provide a number of accessibility modifications. Our contractor partners at HandyPro installed a stairlift, a threshold ramp to the front door, and repaired brickwork so they could then install a suitcase ramp at the end of their walkway. We’re happy to report that the family is now feeling much safer to age in place in their home.

Congratulations to Mat Saunders!

Great work, Shelby Badger!

Each AmeriCorps member takes on a service project during the 11-month AmeriCorps term. Shelby Badger, our phenomenal AmeriCorps Outreach Coordinator, chose to build a little free pantry to be placed outside of a local food pantry for her service project. Little free pantries are small, enclosed structures that can hold shelf stable foods outside so that there are no barriers to accessing food like service hours or providing identification. It's meant to be available for whomever is in need of food at any given time. This is especially important in Montgomery County where, according to the Montgomery County Food Council, 46% of households with children have experienced food insecurity at some point in the last year. This pantry will make a huge difference to these families in need. Congratulations, Shelby, and thank you for your outstanding service to RTMC and our greater community!
