“From Vulnerability to Connection: What Reading Brené Brown Together Taught Us About Belonging”
Love and belonging are basic needs for human beings, up there with food, water and safety. But according to emotions research, we can’t achieve it or create it without first being authentic to ourselves and with others. The Young Adult Chalice Circle shares what they learned from reading Atlas of the Heart by Brené Brown this year, and how to foster more belonging in our communities.
Join us for worship in person in the Sanctuary, or online. The livestream link and order of service will be shared at bit.ly/FUUSBWorship, or visit our YouTube channel.
Following the service, all are welcome to Coffee Hour, either outside in front of the Meeting House or in the Community Room, depending on weather.
While at the Meeting House, anyone is welcome to wear a mask. In the spirit of caring for each other, please stay home if you have any cold or flu symptoms. Thank you.
Summer Sundays for Children & Youth
Erika Reif, Director of Lifespan Faith Development
In the summer we take a break from formal programming for children and youth, but opportunities to grow as a community continue! People of all ages are welcome to take part in worship at First UU; for those who need them, we offer coloring/activity pages, fidget toys, and stuffies in stations at the front and back of the Sanctuary.
During the lay-led services in July, the Nursery on the lower level will be open for kids of any age. We will have three staff members so that we can spread into the Library, allowing for older children to use that area. Children can be dropped off anytime after 9:45, but parents should accompany them and sign them in. We assume that children entering fourth grade and above are able to sign themselves out after the service to rejoin their families; if this is not acceptable please let staff know at drop-off. Younger children need to be signed out by a parent.

Half My DAF (Donor Advised Funds)
Christina Fulton, Director of Operations & Finance
We have the opportunity for donations to have an even bigger impact through the #HalfMyDAF movement.
Over $234 billion sits in Donor Advised Funds across the country. The goal of #HalfMyDAF is to move that money to nonprofits like ours by randomly giving away unrestricted matching grants. If you are a DAF holder and commit to spending down half of the money that was in your DAF on March 1 by September 29, 2023, all the grants you make to us or other nonprofits are eligible for a match from #HalfMyDAF.
#HalfMyDAF will make dollar-for-dollar matches of up to $5,000 on October 2, 2023. There is also a chance of receiving a match of up to $50,000.
Since starting in 2020, the #HalfMyDAF community has awarded over $33 million in grants. The more donors who commit to spending down at least half of their DAF and give to us, the more likely we are to receive a match.
You can learn more about #HalfMyDAF at halfmydaf.com.
Thank you for your support and please spread the word.
