National Hospital Week: We are Healthcare

Each year, hospitals celebrate National Hospital Week, a time to recognize the important roles that hospitals play in our communities and, more importantly, to celebrate all of the wonderful staff members. We at Heritage Valley are extremely proud of our dedicated employees, and we appreciate the role that each one plays in delivering the very best care to our patients.

National Hospital Week, May 7 – 13, 2023, is a celebration of people; it’s not about the physical buildings, it’s about healthcare staff who are dedicated to their patients. Every Heritage Valley nurse, physician, practitioner and staff member is necessary to deliver the quality services needed in our communities. We have over 450 employees in various departments receiving service recognition awards this year, with years of service ranging from five to 50. In fact, more than 70 of these employees have been with Heritage Valley for over 30 years! To thank all of our employees, we will be sponsoring prize drawings and food trucks throughout the month, along with a system-wide service recognition event.

What can you do to celebrate National Hospital Week? The answer is simple: thank a healthcare worker.

When you enter Heritage Valley Kennedy, you are met with a big smile and kind words from our Concierge, Karen, who is celebrating 5 years with Heritage Valley. Karen feels lucky to have the opportunity to serve our patients on a daily basis. Our patients appreciate Karen going above and beyond to provide excellent customer service!

Kitty is proud to have worked in Patient Accounting for over 35 years! She likes to think of Heritage Valley as one big puzzle, with each employee representing an important piece of that puzzle. She enjoys working with numbers, and is happy to complete her piece of the Heritage Valley puzzle!

Carlos never thought he would remain in the same department for 35 years, but he found his home in the Dietary Department at Heritage Valley Sewickley! Carlos wears many hats within his department, and is grateful for the stability, peace of mind and family that he has found there.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

Each year, millions of people face the reality of living with a mental disease. The purpose of Mental Health Awareness Month is to focus attention on those living with mental or behavioral health issues, and to help eliminate the stigma often associated with these illnesses.

Heritage Valley Health System has long provided for the behavioral health care needs in the community, and offers an Adult Behavioral Health Unit at Heritage Valley Beaver and Heritage Valley Kennedy and a Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit at Heritage Valley Kennedy. The Adult Behavioral Health Units focus on the treatment and care of individuals, ages 18 and older, with behavioral health disorders. The inpatient Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit offers care to patients 60 years of age and older, in both short-stay acute and extended stay care, to help improve the quality of life for older adults with chronic and severe mental illnesses. Our staff works closely with the Heritage Valley Medical Staff to ensure that both the patients’ medical and psychiatric needs are met.

Beyond these inpatient programs, we have a long-standing partnership with Staunton Clinic, an outpatient mental health and resource coordination center, which enables patients’ care to continue once they return home. With sites in Bellevue, Edgeworth, Imperial and Wexford, Staunton Clinic provides services to assist people from all walks of life who are seeking to recover from a temporary or more long-term mental health condition. They offer child, adolescent and adult programs.

Mental health is an important part of overall health. If you or someone you know needs help, please reach out to us:
