ACHIEVEMENTS

SR. BOYS SOCCER 4TH IN BC

Congratulations to the senior boys soccer team who finished 4th place at Provincials last week in Burnaby. The boys started the tournament against previously unbeaten Northside Christian School from Prince George. A 5th-minute goal from Nate Boury was all that the Mustangs needed, winning their first game 1-0. In the second game, the team took on Gidgalang Kuuyas Naay Secondary School from Haida Gwaii. After an early Immaculata goal, GKNSS tied the match at 1-1 before the Mustangs took control of the match, eventually going on to a comfortable win. The final group game was against Credo Christian School from Langley. This was the 5th time in a row that we were in the same group as Credo Christian at Provincials. Although the Mustangs controlled a hard-fought first half, the score remained level at 0-0. The Mustangs finally found a breakthrough from Alejandro Torre, and would go on to win the game 1-0, winning their group, and moving into the Provincial semi-final. The semi-final was a match up against Ecole Jules Verne from Vancouver, one of the strongest teams I have ever seen in a Provincial tournament. Jules Verne would score in the 5th minute, but the Mustangs held on into halftime, trailing 1-0 at half. Some squandered chances would come back to haunt the Mustangs as Jules Verne would score their second in the 50th minute, and put the game away in the 60th minute. This meant the Mustangs moved to the third place match on Friday morning vs. King David High School, also from Vancouver. In a day where many of our minds were on what was going to be a long trip home, as well as the terrible weather of the day, the Mustangs got off to a slow start and were down 1-0 at halftime. The Mustangs came out in the second half on the front foot, and threatened multiple times to score, but could not find an equalizer. A King David goal against the run of play was a back-breaker for the Mustangs as the team went on to finish 4th place. Congratulations to all the players on the team for a greatly successful season! Congratulations especially to our grade 12’s Will Clarkson, Marshyl Podmoroff, and Patrik Balaszy for their leadership throughout the season. Will Clarkson was also awarded the “Super 16” award for the player who best exemplifies what it means to be a member of their school’s soccer program. We are hoping to see some teams finish higher than us at Valleys (2nd) and Provincials (4th) in the next few weeks!

Go Mustangs!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY IN THE COMMUNITY

Opportunity at St. Charles parish for any students who are seeking service hours.

  • Live streaming Masses at St. Charles… they have very few people to help with this. They are wondering if someone might be interested in this service to the church. It’s a one-hour-per-week commitment and not that difficult to learn. They would provide the training and would remain with the new people until they felt comfortable enough to continue on their own.
