STAAR Camp
Preliminary STAAR results have been received and students that did not pass a STAAR test or who were absent on the day of a STAAR test will be notified via HISD email early next week. Students that did not pass a STAAR test are highly encouraged to sign up for STAAR Camp and to retest in June. We will notify families once we receive access codes to retrieve student testing reports.

Students that have not passed a STAAR test should sign up to come to STAAR Camp to receive tutoring and help in passing the STAAR exam(s). Students that have not passed a STAAR Exam are required by law (HB4545) to attend 30 hours of additional instruction and the hours that you spend working in STAAR Camp will count towards meeting your Accelerated Learning hours. We have awesome teachers ready to work with you!

This FREE camp will take place at Pin Oak Middle School from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm Monday, June 13th to Friday, June 17th. The schedule can be found on the summer school page on the Bellaire H.S. website.
STAAR EOC Retesting will take place from June 21st to June 23rd at Pin Oak Middle School.
2021 – 2022 Title I Parent and Family Engagement Survey
The purpose of this annual survey is to see how well your child’s school partners with you and encourages your family’s engagement in your child’s education. The survey should take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Your feedback is anonymous. If you need assistance in completing this survey, please reach out to the Title I campus contact person at your child's school. Please remember: If all your children attend the same school, you only have to complete one survey. If you have children that attend different schools, you must complete a new survey for each different school.

HISD to help parents and staff navigate NCAA scholarship eligibility rules
Representatives of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) will educate parents, coaches, academic counselors, and registrars on the eligibility requirements for student-athletes who hope to play college sports.
“Parents will learn about academic eligibility requirements for Divisions I, II, and III sports,” said HISD Athletics Director Andre’ Walker. “It’s important to know what courses a student must take to qualify for athletic scholarships.” For more information, please click here.
Final Exams
We have two days of exams left. Please review the schedule below.
Quiz Bowl Team
On May 27–29, 2022, 5 cardinals -- Sreedathan Menon (10th grade), Patrick Shaw (10th grade), Kevin Li (9th grade), Sidney Chang (11th grade), and Letian Li (11th grade) (pictured L to R) -- traveled to Atlanta to represent Bellaire High School in the thrilling Quiz Bowl National Championships. The team finished #144 among all 272 nationally qualified competing teams, the highest HSNCT ranking achieved over the past five years! We would like to send our sincere gratitude to everyone that supported the quiz bowl program this year and especially to our PTO that provided generous travel grants to make this trip possible.

Quiz bowl is a competitive, academic, interscholastic team activity. Quiz bowl teams use buzzers to answer questions about science, math, history, literature, mythology, geography, social science, current events, sports, popular culture, and more. The matches feature a blend of individual competition and team collaboration since no individual player is likely to be an expert in all subject areas. Participation in the quiz bowl both reinforces lessons from the classroom and encourages players to develop new intellectual interests.

We’re #cardinalproud of our teams and are preparing for competitions next year. Join the fun!

If you have questions, please contact Quiz Bowl Club Co-presidents Letian and Sidney at [email protected] or faculty sponsor Ms. Natalie Christian at [email protected].

Senior Activities
Seniors Activities begin next week. All activities are mandatory and attendance will be taken. Seniors are in the process of completing their Senior Check-Out sheets. Students will submit completed check-out sheets Friday, June 3rd, and pick up their cap and gown. If a student did not pay student dues, they may purchase a cap and gown for $50 during check-out. Cap and Gown pick-up will be in the auditorium from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm.
Class of 2022 Graduation

The Class of 2022 will graduate June 12th at 7:00 pm at NRG stadium. A common question is whether there will be a limit on the number of tickets per graduate. Historically this has not been an issue when graduating at NRG stadium, and we haven't heard any mention of a cap for this year. Invite everyone! Click here for additional information regarding graduation.
Class of 2022 Yard Signs
The PTO will be selling the Class of 2022 yard signs Monday before and after the panoramic picture. #ClassOf2022
Juniors - Your Senior Yearbook Pictures
it’s time to start thinking about your senior yearbook portraits. Summer is a great time to get those taken care of so you can guarantee you’ll be included in the yearbook.

Next year, CADY Studios will be the Bellaire portrait company. Here is a video that introduces CADY.

A few important things:
  • You must take portraits through CADY in order to be included in the 2023 Carillon yearbook. You’ll have a choice between road shoots (two days CADY comes to Bellaire to photograph) or visiting their studio at Richmond and Wilcrest. Because the studio offers more options in terms of services, including backdrops and poses, and the limited number of on-campus spots, I strongly recommend you book a spot at the studio.
  • Please fill out this information form for CADY. This will allow them to send you appointment reminders, proofs and more. (While we did pass along the information the school has on file, we know you may have changed phone numbers or email addresses since then.)
  • For comparisons of the optional packages CADY offers, you can visit the Bellaire Carillon page dedicated to senior portraits. This page also has information on booking your portrait.
  • You will notice there is a sitting fee associated with taking your photo. This is in part to discourage no-shows, which we have had a huge problem with in the past. Students have booked and missed multiple appointments, then we run out of times when we get close to the portrait deadline. The GOOD news is this sitting fee is applied to any order that you place. (This wasn’t the case in the past.) You’ll receive a coupon code when you get your proofs. If this fee is going to cause a barrier to you getting your picture taken, please reach out to me ASAP.

If you have any questions, please contact our yearbook sponsor Ms. Negri.
Wonderworks Pre-College Summer Programs at the University of Houston and Rice University
20 June – 22 July 2022
Summer programs in the arts and humanities for Houston-area and Texas high school students
7 programs offered, 20 June – 22 July 2022
Architecture
Art history
Fiction/creative writing
Filmmaking
Nonfiction/journalism
Politics/law/government (NEW for 2022)

Wonderworks’ enrichment programs approach a near-college level of complexity and are intended for mature, self-motivated, intellectually curious, and academically proficient students.

Enrollment is limited to students who will be entering grades 10, 11, or 12 next fall or who will have just graduated from high school this spring.

Rising 12th grade students who successfully complete any core program may also participate in a post-session College Essay/Counseling Workshop, 25 - 29 July 2022.

All admissions decisions are made on a need-blind basis – we don’t take into account whether you can or cannot afford the tuition; we’re just looking for the very best students, period. Full-tuition waivers are made available to academically well-qualified students who demonstrate financial need.

Early applications are encouraged, with early decisions for early applications.

There are many ways to earn a scholarship and to attend at no cost. To learn more and to complete an application form/financial aid application, visit wonderworkshouston.org.
