Community Spotlight: Build Committee Members Bob Pierry and Rich Totilo
Did you know that we have a "Build Committee" of committed, skilled volunteers that help lead the building of our Habitat homes? These volunteers put in hours of work during the week to ensure everything is ready to go to lead our community volunteers each Saturday.

This week, we got to know Bob Pierry and Rich Totilo, two of our awesome Build Committee members, and learned why they love volunteering with Habitat. Mr. Pierry has been volunteering with Habitat for 10-12 years. He was first connected to Habitat through his church sponsoring a home, and as an engineer, he was familiar with construction grading and wanted to help out. With that grading experience and getting to know other Habitat volunteers and staff, he decided to join the Build Committee and has stayed on for so many years because he "enjoys working with the great, hardworking homeowners and the other Build Committee members." His favorite part of every build is the Dedication.

Rich Totilo joined the Build Committee just six months ago, after realizing he had useful skills and wanted to apply them to helping out in the community. He has enjoyed staying involved because the group of Build Committee volunteers "aren't half-bad to work with!" His favorite build site memory so far is getting a corner pantry door to work just this month in the Crawford Family's home at 506 Wye Street.
Congratulations to Diane Schuth for paying off her Habitat home!
This month, Diane Schuth, Habitat's 17th Partner Family, made the final mortgage payment on her Habitat home! Diane and her daughter became Habitat for Humanity homeowners in September of 1999. After living in a small, run-down trailer, Diane applied for a Habitat home. While she thought she didn’t deserve to be helped, she was oh so wrong. Her hard work awarded her a Habitat home, and her family’s quality of life changed drastically for the better. This family has accomplished something truly incredible, thanks to YOUR longtime support!

"It was the partnership with Habitat for Humanity that was the most endearing because it was like I was part of the Habitat family. I knew that I could raise my daughter in that home and not have to worry about, well, someday I'm going to have to move or the place is going to fall down around me." - Diane

Meet the ReStore's amazing Warehouse & Donation Associate: Josh Riffel! Josh started working at the Habitat Denton ReStore last summer because he wanted to make a lasting impact on the community, inspired by his own father's work in the nonprofit sector. Josh is an extremely dedicated worker, helping to accept, pick-up, and price donations of all kinds - he truly does it all. According to Josh, every donation is different and can be "anything from a light bulb to a fiddle!"

Josh describes the environment at the ReStore as a diverse family: a close-knit group with many unique skills. He says his job is satisfying because he feels he is a part of the community in Denton, enriching it as it in turn helps him grow. Some of Josh's favorite events are Habitat's Home Dedications and the community celebrations, like Juneteenth. Be sure to say "hi" to Josh next time you drop off a donation at the ReStore!

The ReStore has new store hours: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM on Tuesday - Saturday at 1805 Cornell Lane, Denton, TX 76201.

As you know, the Hoblitzelle Foundation awarded Habitat for Humanity of Denton County a $50,000 matching grant for the Habitat Village. Thanks to your recent financial support, we have received enough donations to meet this match and receive the grant in full. This means we raised a total of $100,000 for the Habitat Village through this grant!

What does this mean for the Habitat Village? Because of this awesome accomplishment through the support of our community, we now have the full funding needed in the bank to begin Phase 1 of the Habitat Village as planned in November!

With Phase 1 funding in place, we continue to look forward to Phase 2. The majority of our funds are raised by local individuals and local organizations, so we are relying on YOUR continued support to carry us forward. Would you consider making a gift to the Habitat Village today?
Did you know? Habitat for Humanity: Cars for Homes doesn't just accept cars. We'll gladly accept your old motorcycle, RV, snowmobile, farm equipment, boat, or even construction equipment! We'll put the proceeds toward affordable housing in YOUR community!
