The Louis Latour Presale Wines
Backstory
Louis Latour has over two centuries of Burgundian history; two hundred and twenty-five years to be exact. The Latour family have been growing grapes in the region since the 17th century, slowly growing their property to more than 125 acres in prime Burgundy country. Louis Latour owns 25 acres of Corton-Charlemagne, one of the most famous white wines of Burgundy. They also have the most extensive collection of Grand Cru sites in all of Burgundy. Including Corton Clos del Vigne, Corton Les Perriéres, Chambertin and Romanée-Saint Vivant. The winery was built in 1854 and was the first purpose-built winery in France. Its cellars are embedded in the rock of Corton.
In 2023 Domaine Louis Latour lost it’s leader; Louis-Fabrice Latour. Louis-Fabrice was the seventh Latour and eleventh generation to run the company. His death at just 58 was tragic and the entire wine world still mourns this loss.
The winery remains in the Latour name. His daughter Eléonore is slated to take over as she learns family business. Until then, Louis- Fabrice’s brother Florent is at the helm guiding Eleonore and forging a new path as she if the first woman to be at the head of Domaine Louis Latour in its entire history.

"Duet" is a tantalising combination of the smoothness of Viognier and the purity of Chardonnay which creates a delicate, supple, and classically elegant wine. With a golden yellow-green color and a floral nose with exotic notes, the Duet is silky smooth in the mouth. It has fruity aromas of peach and apricot with a beautiful length. Unoaked but malolactic give it a nice fullness.

The village of Lugny is located high up in the South of the Macon region. It has a great reputation for its white wines which has made Macon famous. It is well known that the village of Lugny, with its limestone soils and warm climate, produces the most coveted white wines of the region. The vineyard of "Les Genievres" is one of the best. Maison Louis Latour selects the best grapes of this village, which thanks to its terroir, was the only village planted with Chardonnay 30 years ago.

The Mâcon-Villages "Chameroy" reveals a brilliant straw-yellow hue. Floral aromas of honeysuckle and jasmine lead into a round and gourmet mouthfeel. Toasted brioche and almond notes on the finish. The wine is bottled during the following Spring at the 'Clos Chameroy' in the outskirts of Beaune. This wine represents the epitome of classical white Burgundy reflecting the fusion between the noble Chardonnay grape and the calciferous terrain of the area.

Generous and creamy on the concentrated, medium-bodied palate. I love the long, very elegant finish, where biscuity character, bright acidity and chalky minerality are interwoven. 91 points James Suckling Here's a well-structured and creamy white Burgundy that's very harmonious thanks to the well-integrated tannins on the medium-bodied palate. Quite a reserved character, with delicate pear and grapefruit notes. Drink or hold. Marsannay is the village which marks the northern gateway to the Côte d'Or on leaving Dijon, the capital of Burgundy and home to the Ducs de Bourgogne. This village marks the beginning of the Route des Grands Crus which follows the N6 highway through the Côte d'Or. Marsannay received its Appellation Contrôlée in 1987 in recognition of its consistently high quality wines.

Located not far west of Chassagne-Montrachet, the village of Saint-Aubin produces distinguished red and white wines with very good quality for money. For a long time Saint-Aubin appellation stayed in the shadow of its illustrious neighbors. Saint-Aubin is a terroir to discover for its outstanding qualities and its attractive price. Saint-Aubin 1er Cru 2022 has a bright and pale gold colour. Its nose reveals brioche and vanilla aromas. On the palate, it is round and fresh, with an almost saline finish.

Domaine de Valmoissine is located on the site of the ancient monastery and university of Valmoissine at 500 metres above sea-level. This guarantees sunshine during the summer months whilst remaining cool at night and limits the possibility of spring frosts. The yield is small in order to ensure perfect maturity and concentration of the grapes, the factors that create the best quality wines.
Deep ruby in color, complex on the nose with aromas of undergrowth and raspberry. Ample in the mouth, notes of cassis, licorice and mocha are released. Smooth tannins and very nice freshness on the finish.

This intense and deep rubis color is typical of the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru. On the nose, aromas of blackcurrant marry perfectly with the finesse of the fresh fig flavors. The notes evolve into lovely aromas of liquorice. Powerful on the mouth, flavors of red fruit explode with a fine tannin finish.
The Chassgne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" parcel of vines lies mid-slope with a south-easterly exposure. "Morgeot" is in fact a hamlet of Chassagne-Montrachet. The vines have been in place since the Maizieres Abbey decided to clear the land and replant the Morgeot soils in the 15th Century. Only a quarter of the appellation's premier cru are planted with Pinot Noir.

The allspice aromas are married to deep Damson plum fruit, and there's a subtle savory element woven into this on the medium- to full-bodied palate. Quite some weight at the long, ample finish. Situated about 10 Km from Dijon, Gevrey-Chambertin is one of the finest viticultural villages of the Côte de Nuits. In 1847 Gevrey-Chambertin was the first village of the Côte d'Or to join the village name with that of one of its Grand Crus - hence 'Gevrey-en-Montagne' became 'Gevrey-Chambertin. Planted only with Pinot Noir, here one finds the complete hierarchy of the Burgundian appellations: to the north, the premiers crus and to the south the grand crus. The village appellations are gathered on the bottom of the slope. The sparse and pebbly limestone-rich brown-red soils give Gevrey-Chambertin wines power and body. A great Côte de Nuits classic! Gevrey-Chambertin 2022 reveals a nose of liquorice and cloves with hints of smoke. The palate is full and round, revealing aromas of grilled coffee and mocha. This wine, with its velvety tannins, is very elegant.

About Sugar Bear Ice Cream
From Emily! Ice cream has such a beautiful way of bringing out the child in us all, no matter our age. I think that's pretty special. I started making ice cream when my kids were tiny and I was immediately hooked. It all started with one small machine. Then I got a bigger machine and then, an even bigger machine. I began studying ice cream and collecting every recipe I could find, and what started as a hobby turned into an all-consuming passion. I enrolled in the Ice Cream Short Course at Penn State, which has been running for over 125 years and draws people from around the globe. Upon graduation, I started SugarBear, set up shop and never looked back.
I focus on flavors that are built around locally grown or created ingredients. My goal is to celebrate food, small business, and community. Each flavor is made from scratch and reflects the authenticity, joy and creativity of people who live and work in Charlottesville, VA.
