Congress included EIE-submitted language in its FY21/ FY22 Budgets for Obscenity Prosecutions: While funds have yet to be specially allocated, this is a historic first! Obscene content, found in mainstream internet pornography, is a fueling factor for child sex abuse material, sex trafficking and sexual exploitation.

FACEBOOK PAUSES PLANS FOR KIDS INSTAGRAM |
Facebook (now Meta) is pausing efforts to build Instagram for Kids after the social media giant announced plans to begin marketing its platforms to children. EIE struck back with a successful petition campaign to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, “Drop Plans for Instagram for Kids Under 13” (18K Signors) in support of State Attorneys General’s efforts, resulting in a “pause” by Meta-owned Instagram on its plans and several Senate hearings. Instagram announced its first IG parental controls, a response to EIE’s petition request.

TEEN VOGUE RETRACTS DANGEROUS CONTENT
|
TeenVogue (digital) began back-peddling, retracting and clarifying its reckless content that encouraged teens (12M users, 14M social media) to sext during the pandemic (share child pornography) and engage in risky sexual activities without mention of protection or dangers, following EIE's “Shut Down Teen Vogue” petition (51.5K signors).
Teen Vogue recently clarified: “It is illegal for an adult to show a minor pornography, and any form of watching or distributing child porn is illegal, as it well should be,” and, “This article has been updated to include the importance of using protection during anal sex.”

XTube (9M users) shut down! Its parent company, MindGeek, which also owns Pornhub, continues to face mounting accusations that it facilitated sex trafficking and other forms of exploitation on its subsidiary sites. EIE was a key coalition partner leading up to a Canadian Parliamentary committee hearing questioning MindGeek execs, resulting in a report calling for significant changes to hold online pornographers liable for breaking Canadian criminal laws.

Dismantling Pornhub and MindGeek-owned Pornography Companies who Profit from Child Sexual Exploitation: EIE’s “Shut Down Pornhub” petition campaign (17K Signors) calls for DOJ prosecution of MindGeek. Coalition efforts resulted in major companies cutting ties with Pornhub, including Roku (55M users), Visa (1.7B customers), MasterCard (750M customers worldwide), Discover, PayPal (337M customers), Comcast (30.6M on internet), Xfinity (20.4M customers) and Heinz. EIE's "Shut Down Pornhub” campaign is the ONLY petition calling on DOJ to enforce the federal child pornography, trafficking AND obscenity laws!

HOLDING BIG TECH ACCOUNTABLE |
EIE team members met with South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham to discuss statewide initiatives to prioritize the safety of children in the digital world. EIE is partnering with Congress to strategically regulate Big Tech giants that hide behind CDA #230, claiming immunity while profiting from child sexual exploitation and childhood vulnerabilities. STATEWIDE INTERNET SAFETY INITIATIVES |
EIE continues to advance Internet safety initiatives in SC in partnership with SC Attorney General Alan Wilson. Donna also met with North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum and ND State Chief Information Officer, Shawn Riley, to strategize Internet safety initiatives and policies in their state. |

COMBATTING SEX TRAFFICKING |
Donna and EIE Communications Director, Kathy Hatem, participated in an anti-trafficking event in Washington DC meeting with activists, NGOs, academics and elected leaders from the US and Mexico. Also in attendance was John Richmond, the United States Ambassador-at-Large to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons, who shared pandemic-fueled trafficking trends. |

Public Awareness and Communications |

Donna gave a TEDx Talk titled, "Where Kids Play, Predators Prey: Protecting Kids Online." In her Ted Talk, she echoed EIE’s clarion call for Big Tech to “develop safer by design technologies, right out of the box, with child safety default features turned on rather than off, on all devices and online platforms...” EIE is also calling for age verification and stronger parental controls, in addition to privacy protections to extend to teens age 13-17 years old.
Donna also spoke at "W-3 Women, Wine and Wisdom" Gathering (Naples, Fla.) to share EIE's culture-changing initiatives and engage local advocates in our efforts.

EIE joined Earn It co-sponsors Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and other advocates in a press conference in support of the bipartisan legislation which removes blanket immunity from liability for social media and technology companies that knowingly facilitate the distribution of CSAM on their platforms.

Donna’s’ Washington Times OpEd on the Earn It Act (February 7) titled “Dismantling Big Tech's Un-EARNED Immunity” stated: “Big Tech will finally be held responsible if they do nothing to keep children safe under EARN IT. It will need to “earn” immunity by demonstrating accountability and responsibility as set forth by this legislation."

Throughout the year, EIE will be working every day to: |
● Advance national and statewide internet safety efforts to expand and promote internet safety for children, urging others to make the protection of its children in the digital world a top priority.
● Continue to expand EIE's Safe WiFi Program to the Airline and Hospitality industries, encouraging them to voluntarily filter CSAM and pornography from their public WiFi services.
● Continue to advocate for new policies that increase Technology Industry/Corporate America accountability for the widespread availability of CSAM, and the enticement, grooming, sex trafficking, and sexual abuse of children on digital platforms.
