Christmas Trees Galore for the Local Kiddies

Many Children Made Happy During Holidays

December 25, 1923

This Christmas was a joyful one indeed for the kiddies of Susanville. They were kept on the jump making an appearance at all of the trees that were around town for their benefit, let alone the one at home that, of course, had to wait for them.

Sunday afternoon the Fruit Growers had their tree at the Story Club and a large attendance of children was on had. Manager Harry Coelman showed a short comedy film and there was a short program before the distribution of presents.

Sunday evening Santa Claus out in his appearance at the Alpine Hotel and me the kiddies of the Lassen Lumber and Box Company and what a crowd of them there was. No race suicide at that plant and Santa’s heart was gladdened to find so many good boys and girls.

The next evening Christmas eve found Santa in town again and at the high school auditorium where the Salvation Army had a large tree that Captain Diez had brought in from the woods. Over 250 children were there and a large crowd of adults also. This is the third annual community Christmas tree that the Salvation Army has had in Susanville.

After a short program of recitations and songs and during the song “Jingle Bells,” Jingle Bells, Santa slid into the room on a sled down a real toboggan. Every child was presented with candy, apples, oranges. Misses Catherine Breitwieser, Dorothy Breitwieser and Mrs. Camile Frizzie assisted in the program of the evening. Captain Diez is very grateful to the people for their support and cooperation.

Monday afternoon the Liberty Theater gave a free matiness for the children and after the matiness Santa Claus distributed bags of candy to all.
