After an incredible outpouring of support from many local businesses and individuals, the electrical system powering Pine Grove’s Festival of Lights has been fully restored. Many businesses donated material, tools and labour, including local high school electrical wiring students. This is the true spirit of Christmas!

Les Résidences Jodins Inc.
To festive tunes and holiday colors, employees, volunteers and residents of Les Résidences Jodins accompanied their well-decorated mini bus to participate in the City of Edmundston Christmas Parade. The magic was visible in the eyes and smiles of the residents, as well as all the children along the route, and not to forget Santa Claus! Everything to get in the holiday spirit! A big thank you to the City of Edmundston for providing wonderful moments for both young and old, and a big thank you to the employees, volunteers, and residents for your involvement and participation!

Recruitment and Retention Update
The holiday season is a great time to connect your home with local schools for winter activities. Both the English and French school districts have opportunities to collaborate. Please reach out to your Recruitment and Retention Coordinator to set up a visit or intergenerational activity in your home.
We have attended 7 job fairs since September and have made it our mission to recruit as many candidates as possible, working towards our goal of supporting nursing homes across the province. These include local and international job fairs where we focus on recruitment for care-related roles. Specifically, our CEO Julie joined the Destination Canada mission to France and Morocco.
We also participated in online job fairs which have offered a much larger pool of applicants. Our list of candidates available to be hired is growing, please reach out with your home’s needs to be sent a list fitting applicants.
We have many international recruits; this is a long-term solution to meet our needs. Local candidates who are recruited are sent out to homes in need as soon as we are in contact. Thank you so much for your patience with us as we continue learning to improve our service of recruitment and retention.

René Doucette, Chief Operating Officer (COO)
My name is René Doucette, and I would like to introduce myself as the new Chief Operating Officer for the New Brunswick Nursing Home Association.
I graduated from Saint Thomas University with a degree in Communications and Public Policy. While studying for my degree, I worked as a casual in environmental services (housekeeping) and as an admitting & emergency room clerk at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital (DECRH). Upon completing my degree, I began my early career working in health care, for the Horizon Health Network, and was fortunate to have the opportunity to work in various fields such as communications, official languages, risk management, and process improvement (certified lean six sigma green belt). After my departure from the Horizon Health Network, I worked as a Human Resources Consultant and Human Resources Strategy and Programs Consultant for the Department of Social Development, and later, in December 2020, resigned from central government to work as a Business Development Assistant and Human Resources Business Partner for the New Brunswick Liquor Commission (ANBL).
A bit about myself, I like to spend my personal time hanging out with family and friends and going for hikes in the woods with my dog – Lincoln (saying he’s hyper would be an understatement), watching Netflix, swimming, reading, and more.
The one common theme you will certainly notice from my professional experience is that I love working with people and fostering strong relationships to face challenges and achieve goals·. I am excited to start working with you all!

The Canadian Remote Access for Dementia Learning Experiences (CRADLE+) is now available for FREE until December 31st, 2023. CRADLE+ is available in multiple languages including English and French. Improving Essential Conversations in Long-Term Care: Introduction to the QUIC Toolkit
Pallium Canada has a new toolkit and resource guide called “Improving Essential Conversations in Long Term Care”. The new guide can be found here.
In addition, Pallium has shared the new Quality Improvement Condensed (QUIC) toolkit, Improving Essential Conversations in Long-Term Care. This toolkit aims to support those working in long-term care facilities to improve essential conversations with residents and their caregivers.
This QUIC was developed by Pallium Canada and a core group of subject matter experts. They collaborated, receiving input and feedback, from a pan-Canadian community of practice, the Long-Term Care Quality Improvement Community of Practice, made up of 97 members from across Canada and professions – all with a shared passion for integrating a palliative care approach in long-term care.
