Dear Friends,
Last weekend while attending the Annual Conference for Missouri United Methodists, I had the privilege of seeing the impact of the ministry of Maplewood UMC. Kristi McGuire and Jewell McGhee, two of eight persons ordained as elders, have been impacted by the ministry of Maplewood UMC.
While Kristi was our student pastor, she and her husband, Brian, were so drawn to this faith community, they became members of the congregation. Jewell McGhee, former member and Tech/Children’s Ministry pastor shared in her testimony to the Missouri clergy that she received her call to ministry at Maplewood UMC. The impact of your ministry travels with Jewell and her family to Columbia Missouri AND with Kristi and her family to Junea, Alaska.
But that’s not all! This year the Missouri Annual Conference announced five new chairpersons for conference committees. TWO of the five are Maplewood UMC members. Colette Cummings is the new chair of the Conference Values Team. Kyle Kranes-Rutz, who is currently working at Webster Hills UMC is chairing the Conference NextGen Team.
Way to go, Maplewood UMC! Your ministry is making a difference through these faithful folks. And way to go, Jewell, Kristi, Colette, and Kyle. Thank you for your faith and faithfulness!
This coming Sunday I will share more about Annual Conference, including additional information about the disaffiliations which have occurred. In the meantime, I want to let you know that this Sunday we will celebrate the grace of God that we receive through Jesus. Romans 5: 1 – 8, Message version, includes this wonderful description of the access we have to God’s grace: “We throw open our doors to God and discover at the same moment that he has already thrown open his door to us.” (Italics mine). What a gift! We have much to celebrate on Sunday, especially the gift of God’s grace offered freely to each of us. Come join the celebration on Sunday!
God’s grace and peace be with you,
Pastor Kim
