WAINWRIGHT TO HOST 2024
RURAL COMMUNITY HEALTH PROVIDER A&R CONFERENCE
Wainwright will host the Rural Community Health Provider Attraction and Retention (A&R) Conference from October 8 to 10, 2024. The conference hosted by the Rural Health Professionals Action Plan (RhPAP) is an opportunity for rural community A&R committees, as well as interested community members from across Alberta, to come together and share experiences, learn about new initiatives related to the attraction and retention of health-care providers to rural communities, and network with other rural community members. Wainwright was chosen from 6 communities who submitted proposals. The Conference will bring 150 – 200 people to the community. Many different criteria were assessed including venue and hotel capacity, distance from airport, transportation, and entertainment options.

The conference will showcase Wainwright to people from all over Alberta. It will bring visitors to the community which will increase revenue for local businesses.

Wainwright has an active attraction and retention community including the Doctor Recruitment Committee and newly formed Wainwright Attraction, Recognition, Retention, and Growth Committee in addition to the Wainwright & District Health Foundation who is committed to enhancing health services by providing needed medical equipment to the Wainwright Health Centre. Wainwright has partnered with the University of Calgary to pilot the Rural Registered Nursing Program, Lakeland College and Medicine Hat College to bring the Health Care Aide program to Wainwright and has offered Health Skills Days to our regions high school students to highlight the health care employment opportunities available locally.
