Maritime Fun Fact: During World War II more than 250,000 members of the American Merchant Marine served their country.
Each May, we celebrate Maritime Month and honor our nation’s great maritime history. Ports across the nation conduct essential international trade, and their strategic locations enable them to create positive economic impacts and support communities in the case of emergencies.

The Port of Redwood City has been a maritime champion in the Silicon Valley Region for over 100 years. To review a snapshot of the Port’s history, please visit our history webpage.

Thank you to our maritime community for your continued dedication to our Port. I am honored to work alongside maritime professionals every day.
Warm Regards,
Kristine A. Zortman
Executive Director, Port of Redwood City
Maritime Month
We are thrilled to join other ports in celebrating Maritime Month across our nation. This is a special time for ports as it is an opportunity to reflect on our history and look forward to our future. In 1933, Congress established National Maritime Day, which is celebrated annually on May 22. This year marks the 52nd observance of Maritime Day by the Maritime Administration and the 89th since Congress established the national holiday. The United States Maritime Administration designated this year's theme as "Culture, Climate, and Commitment: The Future of the Merchant Marine."

Tune in to the Department of Transportation Maritime Administration as they celebrate National Maritime Day in a ceremony on May 24 at 10 a.m. ET. To learn more, visit their website.

We recognize the dedication and commitment our merchant mariners exemplify working behind the scenes to make certain that our U.S. imports and exports get where they need to go.

In support of Maritime Month, we raise our anchors to the mariners, shippers, dockworkers and global supply chain workers that continue to make our Port a key resource for Silicon Valley
Kids Activity Sheets
The Port invites kids to join Maritime Month fun! Color a sailboat, navigate a ship maze and test your maritime knowledge. The Port is thrilled to share our new Kids Korner webpage, a one-stop shop for maritime kids' activity sheets. These port pintables are ready for family fun. Please visit our website to learn more.
Port Sponsorship Awardees
We love serving Silicon Valley. This year, our Port sponsorship program awarded six local nonprofit organizations totaling $16,000. Sponsorships are awarded to organizations with an overarching focus on maritime activities to enhance the community, including the Port’s four focus areas:

  • Economic Growth
  • Environmental Stewardship
  • Youth and Education
