President's Message

by Max Duplant, CPA

And so, a new year at TXCPA Dallas begins. I am thrilled to be the new Board President and am looking forward to this 12-month adventure that we will experience together, carrying our association into the future. I would like to congratulate Kenny Broom, 2022-23 President, on his outstanding term and thank him for his dedicated service to the Dallas Chapter. I also would like to thank last year’s Board of Directors for their wisdom and skill in stewarding this organization.

By now you may have heard that, due to a sudden scheduling conflict at the Ford Center that left us with no acceptable options, we were forced to cancel our Convergence 2023 conference. The event lineup had an amazing slate of courses and speakers and one of the highest quality list of sponsors we’ve ever had. Ultimately, our decision to cancel was based on ensuring that your experience at Convergence was all that you’ve come to expect from this conference. While we hated to cancel, we also know that we’ll be back bigger and better than ever in 2024.

Applications are now being accepted for our upcoming Leadership Development Academy (LDA), and we invite you, or a promising professional you may know, to apply for acceptance into our 2023 term. We are extremely proud of this program, now in its 14th year, as it molds the future of not only the Chapter, but the entire accounting profession. Adam Tarnow, former CPA, popular speaker, and co-author of The Edge: How to Stand Out by Showing You’re All In, will be teaching all five sessions of this year’s Academy, and his book will serve as the foundation of the curriculum. If you are interested in becoming a part of this honored TXCPA Dallas tradition, contact Laura McFadden for an application.

We have some fun and educational events planned for this month. Kathy Kapka will teach a live Ethics for Texas CPAs course on June 6 at the Omni Frisco Hotel at The Star. On June 14 David Gair of Locke Lord LLP will present Criminal Tax Update, a virtual, one-hour course. The Business & Industry Committee brings us another in their Behind-the Scenes events at Envision Dallas on June 28. Formerly Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind, this employment and lifestyle resource for the area’s blind and visually impaired is a remarkable establishment. You’re certain to leave this event with an uplifted perspective on life. Purely for fun, we have our June Thirsty Thursday Social Hour on June 15. This is a great way to get acquainted with your fellow members and catch up with old friends. Hope to see you there!

It's the perfect time to get involved in TXCPA Dallas, when the new year is just beginning. Join a committee, attend our social hour, register for a class… I encourage your participation, your feedback and suggestions. Together, let’s lead this organization into a brilliant future!

Until next month,

Max Duplant, CPA

Board President, 2023-24
