March 18, 2022

Good evening GRES families,

We have completed the ELA portion of IAR and will begin the Math portion when we return from Spring Break.

Most students appear to be enjoying that we are no longer using zones. Appropriate student behavior is still expected, including no physical contact, lining up when signaled, following the directions of the recess supervisors, and of course, having fun.

We have heard your feedback and have made arrangements to begin an earlier morning drop-off routine in an effort to get the line moving sooner. This should result in shorter wait times. When you return from Spring Break, parents who drop their students off will notice two new signs near the yellow curb. If these signs are up, it means we have supervision provided in the gymnasium and students should exit their car and enter through Door 3. If you get to the yellow curb and your child(ren) is not ready to exit the vehicle, please proceed out of the parking lot and re-enter the car line.

Please see the special message below from our social worker, Mrs. Lickfelt.

As Mrs. Reed preps for the Garden Fox Club, we will be collecting:
-Rinsed out and empty milk or water gallon jugs (no lids)
-Lids from plastic jars (peanut butter size or similar)
-Cardboard egg cartons

Wishing everyone a relaxing Spring Break, see you back on 3/28,
Michele Breyne

SHOUT OUTS!!!
“In the midst of covid illnesses, Mrs. Hanson unselfishly opened her classroom, instruction, and heart to my intervention students. Mrs. Hanson was aware I would be absent for a block of time and she knows how much every minute of our intervention instruction matters! After briefly brainstorming with Mrs. Hanson we both agreed for her to take some of my groups for their intervention instruction. Flexibility and dedication is what she demonstrates daily, along with many other professional qualities, and I am thankful to be part of this love and compassion. Thank you Mrs. Hanson.”

"I cannot say enough thank yous to Ms. Imel for helping a student out with getting work finished. Ms. Imel is taking time out of her day to work with this student, and the student absolutely adores Ms. Imel. You rock! :)"

"I just wanted to give you some positive feedback to pass on to whichever ANGEL decided to provide all teachers with Mystery Science resources all put together in these lovely boxes. I have been able to do all of my lessons this year, unlike years past, because I have everything already and do not need to plan too much ahead or purchase items. So thank you!!!!"

Do you have someone you'd like to recognize or thank? Someone who has gone out of the way for you or your child(ren)? Submit a shout out by completing the Staff Shout Outs or you can email it to mbreyne@y115.org or scountryman@y115.org.

Thank you for helping spread joy! We are looking forward to sharing your responses!

Upcoming Author Visits
Author/illustrator Adam Rex will be visiting our kindergarten through sixth grade students on April 14th! We will celebrate all things humor & picture books with him, and get a drawing demo, too! If you'd like to order one of Adam's books, please return the order form that came home this week to your school library by Thursday, March 17th. On that same form you will find information about our bubblegum-hair contest (no, not real gum, don't worry!) - and if your family would like to participate, please see this link!  https://padlet.com/sjmchugh/669t4koic5wx

Excited for all of the laughs we will have together with such a beloved
creator of children's books; thanks for supporting the fun!
